Betting Tip: Forest Green v Newport

Forest Green are still seeking their second league win of the season after a blight of poor returns has plagued them. They are just above the drop zone by a point but they have the worst defensive record in the entire division. Newport won’t exactly be shaking in their boots as the Welsh club make the trip to the New Lawn having collected enough wins lately to be kicking off as the 6/5 favourites out on the road for this fixture, leaving Forest Green at 11/5 to claim a much needed three home points.

Forest Green Form

A point is a point and that is what Forest Green collected, somewhat surprisingly out at second-placed Notts County last weekend. They weren’t given much of a chance in that one at all, but they got through. They have lost four of their six home games this season though in W1 D1 L4 record in League Two and they are on a four-match losing streak at the New Lawn and are without a goal in any of their last three there. They have conceded at an average of two goals per game so far at home in the league, while they are just about averaging over a goal per game themselves.

Newport Form

The Exiles are having a pretty solid season and they have won four of their last six games (L2) and the two defeats in that sequence were out on the road. They have actually lost three of their last four road games in the division, and so they haven’t been at their best away. Still, they have one of the better defences in the league with only Coventry and Luton having conceded fewer than they have, and that should carry them a long way against what appears to be a pretty lightweight Forest Green attack.

Head to Head News

This will be the first league meeting between the two of them since a Blue Square Premier clash back in 2013. There was a Football League Trophy meeting between them just back at the end of August which Forest Green won, but you can’t take anything from throat clash with much-changed sides having been put out. From what little head to head history there is between the two of them, things are even with three wins each and four drawn matches. This is the highest level meeting ever between the two.

Top Betting Tips

Newport have not been terrific out on the road, but they should be able to keep a poor Forest Green side at arm’s length. Newport are a good defensive side and could be value to pick up a clean sheet against a limited attack from the home side.
