Betting Tip: Port Vale v Grimsby

Vale have managed to avoid sitting in the bottom two in the league but that is only because the two beneath them, Chesterfield and Forest Green have been horrendous in defence. Port Vale are desperate for a win as it’s been awhile since they got their only one of the season. Grimsby have just gone off the boil a little bit with a winless three match streak of form going and the Mariners are actually going into this one as 11/5 underdogs, with Vale a price of 29/20 to go and deliver that much needed win.

Port Vale Form

Vale are well out of form now as they are on a ten-match winless streak, having picked up just the two points in that sequence. At home, they have only collected the one point from five games and that was against Forest Green, one of the two sides beneath them. They haven’t been terrible at the back but are just lacking a scoring touch. They have failed to score six of their last ten games and failed to net in a loss at Stevenage last weekend. It’s hard to see where they are going to turn this around, but they have been through a rough run of fixtures if that is any solace.

Grimsby Form

The Mariners have lost just one of their last five games, but are winless in three with a D2 L1 record having been posted. They have drawn their last two and both of those were at home. They have produced a W2 L3 record out on the road this season but none of their last four away games have been an easy one. Perhaps notably they won at Chesterfield in their first away game, one of the bottom two sides currently in the table. They have yet to pick up a clean sheet out on the road this season.

Head to Head News

These two will be meeting for the first time since an FA Cup replay back in November of 2011 which Grimsby won at home. The last time that they were together in League Two was in the 2009/10 season and Vale won both of those meetings, including a 4-0 home victory. They have won both of their previous League Two fixtures against the Mariners.

Top Betting Tips

It may just be worth a flutter on Port Vale producing a win in this one. Grimsby look pretty average and this has to be a chance for Vale to collect something after some tough games recently. Whatever the outcome under 2.5 goals is going to have appeal.
