After another remarkable day of tennis on Sunday, the bottom half of the draw at Flushing Meadows looks there for the taking with 4 men all possessing a serious chance of reaching their maiden Grand Slam final. Big servers Sam Querrey and Kevin Anderson breezed through their round 4 ties to set up a monstrous clash on Tuesday whilst Pablo Carreno-Busta and Diego Schwartzman defied underdog status with the bookies to come through in their quarter of the draw.
Here’s our run down the two men’s quarter finals taking place on Tuesday:
Sam Querrey vs Kevin Anderson
Two of the biggest servers on the ATP Tour meet in what could well be the tightest tie of the round. Both men have had resurgent summers in 2017 and have met this will be their 3rd meeting in as many months in the latter stages of big events. Querrey has never been this far before in his home Grand Slam and he looks to be very comfortable with his game at this moment in time. It’s a similar story for Anderson who lost form last season but is back with a bang and has a metronomic serve.
Head to Head
This will be the 16th meeting between these 2 men with Querrey leading the head to head 9:6. As mentioned they have already met twice in as many months this summer. Querrey ground out the win in 5 sets the last 16 at Wimbledon in July whilst Anderson got revenge in straight sets Montreal in August.
Odds and Predictions
This is the toughest match to call of the round which is reflected in the odds. Querrey starts as the 3/4 favourite with Bet Victor whilst Anderson is 5/4 with Marathon Bet to progress.
Backing the match to go to 4 sets or more looks a good move at 4/9 with Ladbrokes.
Querrey has been in sublime form and his performance against Mischa Zverev in round 4 suggests he may have a little too much for Anderson here.
Querrey to win by 3 sets to 1 is well priced at 7/2 with Bet 365.
Holding serve will be the order of the day here with both men possessing absolute weapons – a high game count looks inevitable.
Over 40.5 games in the match is a smart punt at 8/11 with Coral.
Top Bet
4 of their last 5 matches have contained tie-breaks and with the quick courts at US Open the sets will be decided by the tightest margins.

Both men have had breakthrough years on the ATP Tour and find themselves at career high rankings at the time of writing. Carreno-Busta is currently 19 in the standings whilst Schwartzman’s form has seen the Argentine climb to number 33 in the world – rankings that are sure to improve after their strong showings this week. Carreno-Busta defeated the dangerous Denis Shapovalov in round 4 whilst Schwartzman has dispatched of Lucas Pouille and Marin Cilic to get to the last 8.
