These two seem to be heading in opposite directions this season. Newport have managed to remain unbeaten from the start of the season in League Two and have a good haul of five points to their name. As for Chesterfield, things haven’t gone so well with defeats in two of their three games so far. But they produce a win last weekend that could be a bit of a game changer for them as they took down Port Vale. This clearly isn’t going to be comfortable away game for the Spireites though down in South Wales. That is reflected in the odds with Newport trading at 13/10 with bet365 to take the points, leaving Chesterfield at 2/1.
Newport Form
It has been a decent enough start from the Welsh club, especially considering that this will be their first home game of the season. They opened with back to back away draws against Stevenage and Crewe, but then did something great last weekend in taking a 1-0 win out at Coventry. Not many will have seen that coming with the Sky Blues having started the season so strongly. So credit due to the Welsh Club, they seem to mean a bit of business here and will be expecting to collect three points in this one.
Chesterfield Form
The season hasn’t gone quite as well for Chesterfield who have just three points on the road. That was earned in a 2-0 home win over Port Vale last weekend, which was just the lift that the Spireites needed after losing against Grimsby and Notts County. Their defence still looks a bit vulnerable though and their defeat at Notts County in their only away game may end being telling in this one. It is a little hard to see them having enough to actually post an away win in this one.
Head to Head News
This will be just the third competitive game between Newport and Chesterfield. The other two happened in the 2013/14 League Two season with Newport collecting four points from the two games. They took a 3-2 win in their only previous home game against the Spireites. So there’s not too much really to take away from the truncated head to head except perhaps that both teams scored in both meetings.
Top Betting Tips
The option of both teams to score in this one at 8/11 with bet365 has some decent appeal as neither defence has been consistently brilliant. This is Newport’s first home game of the season so that should be a big occasion for them and they will want to impress and they can take the win over Chesterfield who slumped in their only other away game this season. Home win and both teams to score looks likely.
