Cambridge got themselves a much-needed win on the board last weekend as they edged out the struggling Crawley for a 1-0 win. That was an important three points for the U’s after having lost their opening two games, but will they be able to build some momentum going forward now? They get back to the Abbey Stadium on the weekend to welcome Morecambe to town. The U’s may be catching the Shrimps at just the right time too because their form is on a downward trend following their bright start to the season. Because of that, Cambridge are odds-on at 3/4 with bet365 to bag themselves the three points with Morecambe travelling at a big 18/5 price.
Cambridge Form
The U’s finally got their first win of the season on the board last weekend when they took a 1-0 win at rock bottom Crawley. There would have been questions, serious ones at that if they had lost that. That win came after back to back opening defeats for the U’s in the new season and in their only other home game so far, Cambridge suffered a 1-2 home defeat against Carlisle, and given the rising form of the Cumbrians, it wasn’t a horrendous loss that the U’s suffered against them. They’ll probably have it a little easier against the Shrimps.
Morecambe Form
Morecambe opened the season with a real positive as they took a 2-1 home win over Cheltenham. But then they followed that up with a draw against Lincoln and then went down 1-0 at home against Swindon on the weekend. So they haven’t produced a tremendous amount of attacking threat so far and that may hinder them in this one. The point that they picked up against Lincoln will have been hugely disappointing, with the Imps having come up from the National League last season. They have a couple of tough games against Accrington and Notts Co coming up after this, so will be desperate for at least a point in this.
Head to Head News
The U’s have lost two of their last three home games against Morecambe and have only one win in their previous five home fixtures against them. That lone win was a thumping 7-0 victory in April of 2016 though. But the U’s lost twice against Morecambe last season and their last two home defeats against the Shrimps have been by a 2-1 scoreline.
Top Betting Tips
Running off last season’s form, Morecambe did very well against the U’s last season and at such a hefty price of 18/5 with bet365 to win this, there is an appeal in that. They have the winning form against Cambridge and the U’s look particularly vulnerable at the moment with three defeats in their four games in all competitions this season. The Shrimps may be able to spring a surprise.
