The League Cup in England returns tonight as well as Champions League qualifying while tennis players continue their preparation for next week’s US Open. We managed to get both of our football picks right yesterday, but the tennis proved a little harder to pick.
Nevertheless, even a couple of correct bets in a Lucky 15 guarantees a return (and one of those was a 5/1 shot) because the bet combines four wagers into one four-fold accumulator, four trebles, six doubles, and four singles.
Here are today’s bets:
- Tennis: Bernabe Zapata Miralles to beat Gianluigi Quinzi at around 7/4
- Football: Doncaster v Hull – both teams to score at around 7/10
- Football: Watford to beat Bristol City and both teams to score at around 11/5
- Tennis: Donald Young to beat Borna Coric at around 4/6
Bernabe Zapata Miralles to beat Gianluigi Quinzi
We are dropping down to Challenger level for our first bet of the day. These two players met earlier in the season on clay and Quinzi needed three sets to get the job done. However, in his most recent outing, Miralles took a set off Florian Mayer and has a clay court title to his name since his loss to Quinzi. With that in mind, I think 7/4 is a very generous price for him to turn the tables.
Doncaster v Hull – both teams to score
We saw in the first round of the League Cup that there was a tendency for both teams to score before the favourites advanced. We predict that to continue, particularly in matches between teams that have already found the net plenty of times this season. Apart from Doncaster’s 0-0 draw against Gillingham on the opening day, these two sides have scored and conceded in every game this season. Hull should also end up too strong, so you can add value by backing them to win and both teams to score at around 11/4.
Watford to beat Bristol City and both teams to score
Similarly, we think Watford will have more than enough firepower to see off Bristol City as they have scored three times against Liverpool and twice against Bournemouth in their Premier League outings. However, City have only failed to score once – in their last Championship match – and I expect them to find the net tonight before Watford’s class sees them through.
Donald Young to beat Borna Coric
Young is now ranked four places above the highly-rated Coric, so the odds for this one are quite close together, but we favour the American. He often performs well on home soil, and moved confidently through his first round match, dispatching Rogerio Dutra Silva in straight sets. He has had a little more hard court tennis since Wimbledon than Coric and that should give him the edge.
