France qualified fairly easily for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. In the qualification phase, it remained well ahead of number two Ukraine and number three Finland. Of the eight matches, the French did not lose a single one and they only conceded three goals. In the Nations League 2022/23, however, the curtain fell early: in six matches, France picked up just five points.

Australia is the current number 38 in the FIFA world rankings. Since the country switched from the Oceanic to the Asian Football Association in 2006, things have been moving in the right direction. Indeed, in Qatar, the Australians are there for the fifth time in a row at a World Cup. However, of the 16 World Cup matches in that span, The Socceroos won only two.

Under Graham Arnold, a former NAC Breda player, Australia had to work hard earlier this year to secure a ticket to the 2022 World Cup.
