Some of the biggest names in the women’s game head to New Haven in an attempt to find some form before next week’s US Open. 8 of the world’s top 25 female players are looking to claim the crown in Connecticut where the tournament organisers will be delighted to have attracted so many big names. Former Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova joins Agnieszka Radwanska and Dominika Cibulkova as the top three seeds for the week – which is sure to provide some very entertaining match ups.
Outright Betting
In the absence of the top 9 players in the world, the draw here in New Haven is wide open and as always the markets are governed by who is due to face who in the draw.
Here are some our tips for the title in New Haven:
Petra Kvitova – 9/2 (Betfred) – Two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova is continuing her incredible recovery from her off court injuries sustained back in December and is fully aware of her need for match practice. She has been beaten in the last 32 of both of her previous events (to Sloane Stephens) and needs to get some miles in the legs this week.
Agnieszka Radwanska – 7/1 (Coral) – The Pole has had an indifferent 2017, with some good runs at events – most notably to the semi-finals in Toronto two weeks ago – but has shown some very poor form too. She’ll be looking to arrest her slide out of the top 10 here with some valuable rankings points to be picked up.
Anastasia Pavlychenkova – 12/1 (Betfair) – The Russian, number 6 seed is another player looking for consistency but she looks to have a favourable draw here and possess all the attributes to cause some damage on the hard courts.
Elena Vesnina – 25/1 (Bet 365) – The number 5 seed here in Connecticut is now ranked number 14 in the world after a consistent season. She suffered early defeats in Toronto and Cincinnati and will be keen to rectify those results this week.
Here are some of our outside tips in New Haven:
Alize Cornet – 16/1 (Betfred) – Provided she can edge past second seed Dominika Cibulkova, Cornet looks great value at 16/1 here in New Haven.
Lesia Tsurenko – 25/1 (Bet Victor) – The Ukranian has had a difficult hard court swing so far but has a decent draw here and is always one to watch.
Lauren Davis – 40/1 (Ladbrokes) – The young American starlet has a potentially tough couple of opening round matches but will have home advantage and will be desperate to rise to the big occasion.
