With the new Premier League season getting underway on Friday night, the excitement amongst football fans has never been higher. It has been a long summer without a top level international tournament as the Confederations Cup, youth and women’s tournaments can only satisfy the appetite so far.
Heading into a massive weekend of sport which also includes the US PGA Championship, I’ll be giving you five betting tips to get stuck into.
Alexandre Lacazette to score first – Arsenal vs Leicester City at 10/3
Arsenal and Leicester City open up the new Premier League season and all eyes will be on the Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette as he makes his league debut for Arsenal. The former Lyon striker has scored more than 20 goals in each of his last three seasons in Ligue Un and you can get him at odds of 10/3 (Ladbrokes) to score the first Premier League goal of the new season on Friday night.
Lukaku to score and Man Utd to win at 5/6
Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd team are big favourites to open up with a win this weekend and in Romelu Lukaku they appear to have found the perfect man to fill Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s giant shoes. Lukaku opened his account with a goal against Real Madrid in the Super Cup earlier this week and he’s available at odds of 5/6 (Sky Bet) to score in a Man Utd victory on Sunday.
Hideki Matsuyama to win the US PGA Championship at 9/1 (Ladbrokes)
With the first round done, most of the big names sit a few shots back on the leaders. Hideki Matsuyama was extremely impressive in winning the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last time out and he is just three shots back as he aims to win his first ever major in golf. The Japanese golfer is high on confidence at the moment and he’ll fancy his chances over the weekend.
Liverpool and over 2.5 goals at 7/5 (Ladbrokes)
Liverpool take on Watford on Saturday and they have looked rampant going forward in pre-season with new signing Mohamed Salah linking superbly with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Phillipe Coutinho. The injury to Adam Lallana will have dampened spirits somewhat, but I expect Liverpool to turn in an exciting attacking display at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
Chelsea and under 2.5 goals at 11/5 (Ladbrokes)
Defending champions, Chelsea, take on Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and I’m going for a low scoring game here. Chelsea will be without Eden Hazard for the clash and with Alvaro Morata struggling to find his feet so far and no Diego Costa, last season’s title winners could find it tough to score more than twice here against a blunt Burnley side.
