Notts County finished in the bottom half of the season in League Two last season and they really struggled for goals and they had one of the worst defences in the league. Chesterfield had a terrible season last term up in League One as they finished rock bottom of the pile and only one team conceded more goals than they did. So it has been a fall from grace from them and they had a real struggle at home on the opening day of this season as they were comprehensively beaten by Grimsby.
Notts County didn’t fare any better as they were smashed on the road by Coventry so both of these sides really need a big old boost. The head to head between these two have been even in recent meetings at Meadow Lane. Can the Magpies use home advantage to get themselves up and running by landing the victory? Notts County are 19/20 to take the win, with Chesterfield trading out at 27/10 with bet365.
Notts County Form
The Magpies posted a W7 D7 L9 record at home last season which isn’t great but they did have a good end of season run on home soil. They went W6 D3 L1 in their last ten home games in League Two last term. As mentioned they struggled to find the goalscoring form to do any better. They will be highly concerned after those three goals conceded in their opener against Coventry who, like Chesterfield were relegated from League One last season.
Chesterfield Form
So Chesterfield tanked to a 3-1 home defeat at Grimsby on the opening weekend and that was a very poor start to life in a lower tier. Now they have to try and pick up the pieces out on the road which isn’t going to be an easy thing to do at all. Chesterfield won just nine games all season in their league campaign and their away form overall read W2 D6 L16 which is shocking and it makes betting on this one really difficult because both of them really have their issues.
Head to Head News
The last time these two went head to head was in the 2014/15 season in League One. Chesterfield came out on top in those collecting four points from the two games. Of the last four between them at Meadow Lane, they have shared two wins each and each of those results were by a 1-0 scoreline so there is a decent trend running there. Overall in the head to head Notts County are W27 D18 L19 but they have won just three of their last ten against the Spireites.
Top Betting Tips
Goals are probably going to be at a premium in this one and under 2.5 goals with bet365 looks value at 4/5. It is so hard to pick a winner but while both will have been massively disappointed with their opening defeats, but Chesterfield’s heavy loss was at home and that sends up a bigger red flag. They were also so poor on the road last season and Notts Co may be able to sneak the victory with a 1-0 correct score at 11/2.
