Round five of the Danish Superliga starts on Friday night as Silkeborg IF welcome FC Helsingor to JYSK Park. During the 1990’s, Silkeborg IF were one of the most successful clubs in Danish football. They were champions once, finished runners-up twice and claimed a third place. This season it seems unlikely Silkeborg IF are going to challenge for a second title as they come into this match down in 11th place.
FC Helsingor have only been in existence for just over 10 years. Several clubs merged together to form the club under the name Elite 3000 Fodbold but this was changed in 2012 to FC Helsingor. Last season they won promotion to the Danish Superliga from the First Division, having finished in third place. An extra-time win over Viborg FF secured promotion in the playoffs.
Silkeborg IF Form
Silkeborg IF come into this match having won only 1 of their 4 Superliga games this season. The other 3 games have each ended in defeat and mean Silkeborg IF have just 3 points to show from a possible 12 available. The only good news for Silkeborg IF is that all 3 of their league defeats have come away from home against tough opposition, including 2-1 and 2-0 defeats at Lyngby and Midtjylland respectively.
In their only home match to date, Silkeborg IF defeated AGF 2-1 and that was two weeks ago. Stretching back into last season and Silkeborg are not easy to beat at home, losing only 3 of their last 15 Superliga games at JYSK Park.
FC Helsingor Form
The Superliga newcomers will be delighted to have won 2 of their first 4 games this season and sit midtable with 6 points to show for their efforts. Having lost their opening 2 matches of the season to Hobro and OB, FC Helsingor showed good character to come back and defeat Sonderjysk 2-1 away and Midtjylland 2-1 at home. The latter of which is an excellent result. While FC Helsingor have scored in 3 of their 4 matches this season, they are yet to keep a clean sheet and will need to improve defensively if they are to stay clear of the relegation places.
Team News
Silkeborg IF are still without their Brazilian striker Alex who has a cruciate ligament injury. Therefore, Gustaf Nilsson and Jeppe Okkels are expected to continue in attack. FC Helsingor have a fully fit squad for this game and Mads Aaquist, the man who scored 2 goals in their win at Sonderjysk is expected to start in defence with Andre Riel up-front.
Top Betting Tips
The one clear thing both teams have in common heading into this match is the fact neither have kept a clean sheet in the Superliga this season. Therefore, both teams to score seems like a good bet and is available at 3/4 with Ladbrokes. Only bottom of the table Randers have scored less goals than the 3 achieved by Silkeborg IF this season. While both teams may score, this could still be a low scoring match and the 1-1 correct score is on offer at 13/2 with William Hill. Defender Mads Aaquist was the unlikely hero in FC Helsingor’s last match and he is 17/4 with Unibet to score at any time in this game.
