Both Cheltenham and Crawley suffered defeats on the opening weekend of the new League Two season. There are eight teams in the division whose name starts with the letter C and six of those lost. These two were part of that losing mass and so will be out looking to get some positive points on the board this weekend. There haven’t been too many meetings between the two clubs before, but it is Cheltenham who are just edging the prior head to head between the two of them.
Last season Cheltenham only finished a couple of spots above the drop zone and need to get some better momentum going this season. As for Crawley, they only finished one point better off than the Gloucestershire club in last season’s League Two standings but were one of the few clubs to conceded over seventy goals for the course of the season. Who will get the winning points on the board at Whaddon Road? Cheltenham are even money at Coral to take the win, leaving Crawling drifting at 14/5 with 10bet.
Cheltenham Form
It wasn’t a particularly great start from Cheltenham as they suffered a 2-1 loss out at Morecambe last weekend. But at least they got on the scoresheet and they can take heart from the fact that they were a much better home side last season than they were out on the road. The Robins posted a W8 D7 L8 record at Whaddon Road last term in League Two but they barely managed an average of just over a goal per game. They did win their last three home games of last season, so that is some home form at least from the Robins heading into this one.
Crawley Form
The Reds didn’t fare much better than Cheltenham did last season in the division and they may have a long season ahead of them if their opening fixture of this season is anything to go by. They were hammered at home 3-1 by Port Vale and now have to try and pick up the pieces away from home which is never an easy thing to do. Last season Crawley’s away form in the division was pretty miserable, with just a W5 D5 l13 record on the board and that won’t give punters a great appeal on them, especially with them taking a loss at Cheltenham as well.
Head to Head News
So Cheltenham took four points from last season’s two league meetings with Crawley and they are unbeaten in three against them now (W2 D1). From the five previous games between these two Cheltenham hold a W2 D1 L1 record but they have won all three home games played against the Reds, scoring at least two goals in each of them. Both teams have scored in four of the five previous meetings.
Top Betting Tips
Neither of these are great defensively and therefore both teams to score looks some value at 10/11 with William Hill. Cheltenham have a 100% home record against the Reds and that’s not something to dismiss, but because they are the wrong side of even money in the match outright for value, stick with a Cheltenham to win & Both Teams To Score wager for a bit of extended value on the match at Whaddon Road.
