Both men and women are in action today at the Rogers Cup with the conclusion of first round matches, and there is lots of football this evening, including the Super Cup, League Cup games and league games across Europe.
Yesterday was tough, as our picks John Isner and Daniil Medvedev let us down and St Pauli failed to do the business against Dresden. Thankfully Jared Donaldson (our only odds-against tip) did beat Lucas Pouille.
The good news is that with a Lucky 15, even with one winning selection you still get some of your outlay back, as it combines four selections into one four-fold accumulator, four trebles, six doubles and four singles.
Here are today’s bets:
- Football: FC Botosani to beat ACS Poli Timisoara at around 6/5
- Tennis: Julia Goerges to beat Catherine Bellis at around 5/6
- Tennis: Karen Khachanov to beat Pablo Carreno Busta 2-0 at around 6/5
- Football: Manchester United to beat Real Madrid and BTTS at around 5/1
FC Botosani to beat ACS Poli Timisoara
Botosani are the unexpected early leaders of Romania’s top division, and they come up against a side in trouble this evening. Botosani have started the season with a draw and three wins, and their last two outings saw them win by four and three goals respectively. Timisoara, in financial jeopardy, took a heavy 3-0 loss to Astra in their last away match and I think Botosani will put a few goals past them today. Take the odds-against outright win while it is still available with Ladbrokes, otherwise, go for the Asian Handicap and back FC Botosani -0.5.
Julia Georges to beat Catherine Bellis
Georges has reached two WTA finals this month, including last week at Stanford, where she lost to Ekaterina Makarova. Bellis is a fast improving 18-year-old who beat Petra Kvitova last week, but these two met a few weeks back in Mallorca, where Georges ran out the 6-1 6-1 winner. Although Bellis is talented, I do not see her overturning that sort of form this quickly and back Georges to win.
Karen Khachanov to beat Pablo Carreno Busta 2-0
Although Carreno Busta is seeded 11 for this tournament, that is thanks hugely to his early season form and some good runs during the clay court tournaments in Europe. He has spent very little time on court since the French Open when he retired in the quarter-final against Rafael Nadal. Khachanov is in decent form, but the key factor is that he has had time on court recently, is fully fit, and should therefore easily see off the struggling Spaniard.
Manchester United to beat Real Madrid and BTTS
We fancy Manchester United’s chance of beating Real Madrid in the Super Cup this evening. They had a much more successful pre-season than the Spanish side, including a draw (and subsequent win on penalties) against Real. Odds of around 29/10 are therefore attractive, but we also think it unlikely that both teams will keep a clean sheet. It has not happened in the last six meetings, and with both sides likely to field new signings at the back, we think combining a Manchester United win bet with both teams to score is worth the gamble.
