Following Alexander Zverev’s impressive win at the Citi Open in Washington last week, some of tennis’ biggest names return in Montreal to try and find some form in the lead up to the US Open.
Men’s Draw Preview – ATP Tour
With Stan Warwinka and Novak Djokovic both ruled out for the rest of 2017 through injury and question marks still hanging over Andy Murray’s fitness and form – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal look set to continue to roll back the years and maintain their dominance in the men’s game.
Outright Betting
The outright markets – as always – are governed by who’s due to play who and where the threats in the draw lie. With so many top names in the field, there’s seemingly no simple route to the final meaning there should be lots of fascinating match ups.
Roger Federer – 7/4 (Sky Bet) – Fresh from picking up his 18th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last month, Federer will be arriving in Montreal full of confidence. His form in 2017 has been simply incredible and if he plays anywhere near his best tennis, he has a seriously good chance of winning the competition. The only question mark would be around how much hard court tennis he has played and whether (as he normally does) he’s looking to reach top form at the end of the month at the US Open.
Rafael Nadal – 7/2 (Coral) – Nadal’s form of 2017 has been equally as impressive and in clinching his 10th Roland Garros crown back in June, he has ingrained himself in to the annuls of tennis history. Hard courts are not Rafa’s favourite surface but as the number 1 seed for this event, he will fancy his chances against anybody.
Alexander Zverev – 12/1 (Sky Bet) – Zverev picked up his 4th title of the year in Washington, overcoming Nishikori and then Anderson to clinch the cup. At 20 years of age, he looks to best placed potentially replace the likes of Federer and Nadal at the top of the game. An each way punt here would definitely be worth a go.
Milos Raonic – 12/1 (Bet Victor) – Getting to the latter stages of tournaments has not been an issue for the Canadian for a couple of years now, getting over the line and winning the trophies however – has been. Raonic will be hoping that with some home support he can kick on this week and give the home crowd something to cheer.
Other players to look out for in the draw – predominantly for each way betting:
- Dominic Thiem – 25/1 (Sky Bet) – The young Austrian is seeded 3 in Montreal.
- Kei Nishikori – 25/1 (William Hill) – Enjoys this part of the season but on course to meet Federer in last 8.
- Kevin Anderson – 50/1 (Betfair) – Reached the final last week in Washington and has a nice looking draw.
