Today’s tennis and football action sees the three ongoing ATP tournaments move into the quarter-final stages and we’ve focused largely on those matches, picking out a couple of potential upsets for our Lucky 15.
We also have a football tip, this time sticking with league football after a number of upsets in Europe caught us out earlier in the week.
Remember, however, that a Lucky 15 combines four bets into a four-fold, four trebles, six doubles, and four singles, so you still have chances to win even if one or two bets don’t come in.
Here are today’s tips:
- Tennis: Leonardo Mayer to beat Jiri Vesely at around 13/10
- Tennis: Ernests Gulbis to beat Fabio Fognini at around Evens
- Football: Cork City to beat Galway at around 1/4
- Tennis: John Isner to beat Lukas Lacko in straight sets at around 1/2
Leonardo Mayer to beat Jiri Vesely
Leonardo Mayer looks to be coming back towards full fitness and is playing some strong tennis in Hamburg, where he comes up against Czech Jiri Vesely. Although Vesely is the favourite, we will take him on here. Mayer was ruthless when up against home favourite Jan-Lennard Struff yesterday and having lucked into to the main draw as a lucky loser, then taken out top seed Albert Ramos-Vinalas, he is playing with a freedom that could see him repeat his title success here in 2014. Vesely will be a tough nut to crack, however, having seen off Fernando Verdasco and Horacio Zeballos, but Mayer dominates the head-to-head 4-1, and on clay he leads 2-1.
Ernests Gulbis to beat Fabio Fognini
Ernests Gulbis is on his way back up the rankings following a season in the doldrums and he is making his mark in Switzerland. He took out German qualifier Daniel Brands in straight sets before an impressive win over in-form Italian Paolo Lorenzi in three sets yesterday. Now he faces another Italian in Fabio Fognini, who was far from convincing in beating Norbert Gombos in his opening game. His form has dropped since reaching the Miami semi-finals and could struggle against a confident Gulbis, who leads the head-to-head 4-1.
Cork City to beat Galway
This League of Ireland match-up pits Cork City, a side that has won 61 points from 21 games this season and has been dominant at home against a Galway side that does not travel well at all. Having already lost 4-0 to Cork at Turners Cross this season, we are prepared to take the small odds on offer here for Cork to win again. They will be glad to be back into league action after a disappointing Europa League qualifying campaign and should bounce back with a win.
Jon Isner to beat Lukas Lacko 2-0
Jon Isner is making easy progress through the draw at Atlanta and is an unappealing 1/6 to beat Slovakian Lukas Lacko – who we expected to do well this week – but such has been his dominance, beating Vasek Pospisil without facing a break point, for example, we can’t see him dropping a set. Isner is coming off the back of a title in Newport and looks set to buck the trend of 2017 by following up the next week with a starring performance.
