The Danish Superliga moves onto week three this weekend and one of the games sees Sonderjyske take on FC Helsingor. Both teams will be looking for a win, but for very different reasons. Sonderjyske will be looking to build momentum following their win last weekend, while FC Helsingor will be desperate to pick up their first points in their first ever year in the top flight.
Sonderjyske are favourites for this clash and with their experience in the Danish Superliga it is easy to see why. This game is the first of the weekend in Denmark and will be played on Friday evening.
Sonderjyske Form
After a fantastic season to finish second two years ago, things haven’t really gone to plan for Sonderjyske. They managed just 6th place last season after performing very inconsistently throughout the season. This year is supposed to be better for them, although after a poor opening day draw, things didn’t look too bright.
Last week though, Sonderjyske turned things round a little with a good 4-1 away victory against Aab. Their task now is to follow that up, and put together a string of good results, something they failed to do last season. This game, at home against a relegation candidate, is the perfect game to follow up from their win last week. Sonderjyske have a great chance to make it two wins in a row, and begin moving in the right direction at the start of this new season. Should they win this game then I can see them starting to hit top form and they have a chance to go on a long streak.
FC Helsingor Form
After securing their first ever move to the top flight last season, FC Helsingor have found life tough in the Danish Superliga. Their aim for this season is simple, to remain in the top flight, although after two defeats in their opening games they have probably realised just how difficult it is going to be. They are just 12 years old as a club right now, so their rise has been very impressive and they deserve a lot of credit for that. However, this year looks like it could be a real learning curve for them.
An opening day 2-1 defeat to Hobro was followed up with a 2-0 defeat to OB Odense in their first top flight home game. That was a real occasion for the club, but signalled what a tough time they have ahead of them.
Team News
Sonderjyske have a couple of injury worries surrounding key first team players, with Eggert Gunnthor Jonsson definitely out of the game. Striker Mikael Uhre scored in the victory last weekend and will probably keep his place in the side thanks to that.
In their two games so far, FC Helsingor have scored just one goal, a strike from Mikkel Basse and if they are to survive that is something they need to look at. They have to find a way to score, so I expect manager Christian Loenstrup to keep making changes to his front six, until he finds a formula that works for them.
Top Betting Tips
When you look at the betting for this game, it is clear to see why the bookmakers have Sonderjyske as favourites to win the game. I cannot disagree with them, and also fancy Sonderjyske to win this one, especially as they are the home team in this meeting.
FC Helsingor have struggled to score goals so far and after seeing Sonderjyske concede just one goal from their first two games, I have a feeling that will continue. Therefore, my selection for the game is Sonderjyske to win to nil, which is available at a very generous 7/4 with Ladbrokes and Ladbrokes. I strongly fancy Sonderjyske to win this game, and I also fancy them to keep a clean sheet. Combining the two enhances the price and I think this is a good value bet for the game on Friday.
For the season, I think Sonderjyske will eventually perform well and be pushing for a top four finish, while I fear that FC Helsingor are not quite ready for this level yet. Their rise has been impressive, but I do think they are going to struggle this season and they look like favourites for the drop.
This should be a good game on Friday, and I expect Sonderjyske to win the game, I will be backing them to win to nil which is available at 7/4 with Ladbrokes and Ladbrokes.
