While many are still recovering from an exciting two weeks at Wimbledon, the rest of the tennis word returns to action this week, with many of the top men’s players heading to Atlanta. Along with a whole host of home favourites, there is plenty of European interest too, with the opportunity to replace Nick Kyrgios as the champion providing motivation.
With the ATP Atlanta having attracted one of the best fields in a number of years, there are plenty of players to back over the week. Let’s take a look at some of the leading contenders for the title, as well as our top betting tip for the competition, helping you to decide who to place a bet on.
Tournament Contenders
Despite having lost out to Kyrgios in last year’s final, American, John Isner, will once again be among the leading candidates, having lifted the trophy on three successive occasions from 2013-2015. Isner exited Wimbledon at the second-round stage, however recovered quickly to win the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships last week, beating Sam Groth in the final. Meanwhile, compatriot Jack Sock could provide strong competition, having taken a week off following his third-round exit at SW19.
Elsewhere, Gilles Muller provided the biggest shock at Wimbledon, seeing off Spaniard Rafa Nadal, before eventually being beaten by Marin Cilic in the quarter finals. The 34-year-old is among the favourites, however the grass suits his game more than hard courts.
For British tennis fans, Kyle Edmund will hope to win a first ATP title, however a first-round clash with the experienced Marcos Baghdatis is hardly the easiest of openings. Elsewhere, the likes of Donald Young and John Millman are perhaps worth a bet for those looking at a potential outsider, with the duo usually performing well on home soil. An American player has won six out of the last seven tournaments, and it would certainly not be a surprise to see yet another US success.
Top Betting Tip
Given his form of late, along with his previous successes at this tournament, it is almost certain that John Isner will make the latter stages in Atlanta. Once at this stage, Isner is extremely difficult to beat, with his huge first serve and big ground strokes making him a nightmare to play against on a hard court. As a result, we are backing the American to win a second tournament in just a matter of weeks, with bookmakers 10Bet offering best odds of 57/17 for him to do so.
