A Lucky 15 is a special type of bet where you make four selections in different events and they are combined into 15 bets. The beauty of a Lucky 15 is that you only need one of your selections to win to make a return, and if more than one wins, you can stand to make big winnings.
Your four selections (A, B, C, D) are combined into the following bets:
- One four-fold accumulator bet (A, B, C & D)
- Four treble bets (A, B & C / A, B & D / A, C & D / B, C & D)
- Six double bets (A & B / A & C / A & D / B & C / B & D / C & D)
- Four single bets (A, B, C, D)
Whereas a four-fold requires all four selections to win, with a Lucky 15, you have 15 chances to win and one losing bet won’t end your chances.
A £1 stake on each bet means a Lucky 15 will cost you £15 – although with plenty of bookmakers you can use a much lower stake if you prefer.
Lucky 15 Bonus Offers
Plus, bookmakers will often offer bonuses for a Lucky 15, doubling the odds if only one selection wins and offering a bonus if they all come in. The table below allows you to compare what some leading bookmakers offer in terms of bonuses – Betfred offer the best bonus for just one winner, Ladbrokes the best bonus for four winners, while Ladbrokes are the only firm that apply bonuses to football bets.
Bookmaker | Bonus for 1 winner | Bonus for 4 winners | Notes |
Betfred | Triple the odds | None | Horse racing/greyhounds only |
Ladbrokes | Double the odds | 15% bonus | Horse racing/greyhounds only |
Coral | Double the odds | 10% bonus | Horse racing/greyhounds only |
Ladbrokes | Double the odds | 10% bonus | Horse racing/greyhounds/football only |
William Hill | Double the odds | 10% bonus | Horse racing/greyhounds only |
Bet Victor | Double the odds | 10% bonus | Horse racing/greyhounds only |
Sky Bet | Double the odds | 10% bonus | Horse racing/greyhounds only |
You can mix and match what you bet on, so if you don’t want to find four horses that you fancy, you can combine those with another sports bet – perhaps a tennis player or a football team, but remember you will lose any bonus from a single win if you do that.
For example, let’s say you make the following bets into a Lucky 15:
- Horse A at 4/1
- Horse B at 11/8
- Horse C at 3/1
- Horse D at 10/1
If they all win, from a £1 Lucky 15 bet (total stake £15), you could win £1,249.25, and that’s without any bonus applied.
You can also place an each-way Lucky 15. Placing the same bet as above but each-way, even if they all place, you would win £35.25, assuming you get 1/5 the odds for a place. Betting each-way adds some insurance to your betting. While it means you double your stake, it can be a good option if you have a couple of longer priced selections in there.
In general, Lucky 15s are a fun way of maximising your profit from one or two winners – particularly if they are low odds – and really capitalising if you have a great set of selections.
Good advice is to devise a strategy for your Lucky 15 bets, for example sticking to certain types of horse race, such as avoiding handicaps or races with more than 8 runners. Similarly, you could apply rules to football or other sports, by only betting on teams playing at home that won their previous match, for example.
