AberdeenIt is part two of the UEFA Europa League second qualifying tie for Aberdeen who will have to put in a decent shift out in Bosnia on Thursday night to pull themselves through this tie. The Dons were pegged back to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Pittodrie last week and that means of course that they have given up a precious away goal to their opponents. Already in the first qualifying round of this season’s UEFA Europa League, Scotland lost both Rangers and St Johnstone in upsets.
So can Aberdeen avoid going the same way? They aren’t backed particularly well at 11/8 to win the game, with the hosts at 21/10. This now becomes a very tricky match for Derek McInnes and his men out on the road and they have to get themselves on the scoresheet to put themselves in contention. The winner of this tie will go on to face either Moldova’s Zaria Balti vs Apollon Limassol from Cyprus in the third qualifying round.

The Bosnians will have been more than happy with their draw at Pittodrie. That really gives them something special to build on. The Bosnians didn’t manage to get a top half of the table finish in their domestic league last season and made their way to the UEFA Europa League qualifiers through a Bosnia and Herzegovina Cup win.
That having been said, the Bosnians have only suffered the two defeats in their last 31 games on home soil. So that will indicate that they are going to give the Dons a good run for their money.

The Dons can look back at recent history in the UEFA Europa League for some inspiration. They took an away win at Groningen in 2014 and they beat out Croatian side Rijeka as well in the following year’s campaign away from home. So they have won away at better teams than Siroki Brijeg and aren’t out of this yet. The Dons have made it through to the third qualifying round in each of the last three seasons and so the Scottish side is carrying form there as well.

This is early season still and the Dons, who lost some major key players over the summer are undergoing a rebuilding process at the moment. So that is something that is going to take some time to pull together. They were the rustier of the two sides in the first leg without question, particularly at the back which will be a concern for boss McInnes. From four of the five two-legged UEFA ties between these nations’ clubs though, it has been the Scottish side involved which has made it through.

Aberdeen showed some defensive weakness in that first leg. Well, they were the orchestrators of their own downfall and the Bosnians looked the better of the two sides overall on the night. Aberdeen has to come out and push for a goal but this isn’t an easy game for them and another draw between the two has to have some appeal in this one at 2/1 with Ladbrokes.
Whatever the outcome under 2.5 goals at 1/2 doesn’t offer too bad coverage really but because there probably is going to be little to split the two of them, an 11/2 rating at William Hill on a 1-1 draw looks tempting.
