Nigeria vs Cameroon Game Preview
The round-of-16 throws up a battle between three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners Nigeria, and reigning champions Cameroon – although both teams did fail to win their final group stage match. However, unlike Nigeria, the Indomitable Lions didn’t suffer a loss, but they did draw their last two games.
Nigeria Team News and Latest Form
Nigeria lost 2-0 to Madagascar last time out, ending a nine-game unbeaten run in this tournament for the Super Eagles (W7, D2). However, if they return to winning ways here, it could be tight – Nigeria’s previous three AFCON victories came via a 1-0 scoreline, with the last two seeing the winner scored beyond the 70th minute. In fact, four of Nigeria’s last six competitive matches produced a 1-0 scoreline either way, with all six seeing at least one team fail to find the net.
Moses Simon assisted Nigeria’s last AFCON goal and scored a first-half opener in the previous H2H back in 2017. Nigeria have failed to score in four of their last eight matches but did keep five clean sheets. Twelve of Nigeria’s last 14 knock-out stage fixtures that saw a winner (including extra-time) were decided by a one goal-margin (W8, L4), with all 12 ends via a 1-0 or 2-1 scoreline.
Cameroon Team News and Latest Form
Five-time AFCON winners Cameroon are now undefeated in their last six games (W3, D3), and are yet to concede in this tournament – although their final two group stage matches did end goalless.
Furthermore, the Indomitable Lions are unbeaten in their last nine matches in this competition (W4, D5 – after 90 minutes). During that period, both teams scored in just three of those games, with Cameroon conceding the first-half opener in two – albeit they came back to win both 2-1.
Christian Bassogog scored in Cameroon’s final AFCON qualifier and won the 2017 tournament’s ‘Man of the Competition’ award. Cameroon’s last four AFCON draws ended goalless. Cameroon are yet to see a first-half goal this tournament.
Nigeria vs Cameroon Head to Head
Nigeria and Cameroon gave faced 13 times since 1968, and the Super Eagles are leading the all-time H2H encounters with six victories; Cameroon have four while three games ended without a winner. Nigeria are without a loss to Cameroon in the previous four duels, winning three of those four matches in the process and scoring even ten goals in that span. The latest clash finished 1-1 when Moses Simon and Vincent Aboubakar scored goals.
Nigeria vs Cameroon Betting Tip
Cameroon are without a defeat in the last six matches, and they drew three of those games while Nigeria are not in top form at the moment. It is tough to predict goals in this one as it could easily finish 0-0, so we are suggesting you go with a draw at 19/10 with bet365. The Indomitable Lions drew their previous two games, both with a 0-0 scoreline and I would be surprised if that occurs again here. However, the 4/11 odds on under 2.5 goals are quite miserable, and we’re not going to back it. Instead, you better opt for a draw but don’t bet a significant stake as one goal could decide the tilt.
