Where Next for Sturridge?
Daniel Sturridge never seemed to gain the full trust of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The striker did not come close to cementing a regular place in the starting XI with Roberto Firmino as the main central striker in the team.
Sturridge showed glimpses of what he is capable of when he scored a fantastic equalising goal at Chelsea last season but that was a rare moment of magic in a disappointing season for the player.
You must go back five seasons to find the last time the England international scored 10 or more goals in the Premier League. Injuries have not helped his progress and Sturridge has struggled at Liverpool recently.
However, his contract with the club has come to an end and that means the player is available on a free transfer. Will Sturridge remain in the Premier League?
Premier League Interest
The top Premier League clubs are unlikely to show any interest in Sturridge so he may have to be prepared to set his sights down the table. That could mean the possibility of playing for a team which has just been promoted from the Championship.
Aston Villa may have already invested heavily in a new striker from Belgian football but may see Sturridge as a gamble worth taking on a free transfer. He has plenty of Premier League experience and that could prove valuable during the course of a season.
However, would Sturridge have what it takes if Aston Villa found themselves in a long relegation battle next season? His proneness to injury will not go un-noticed and that could be a major stumbling block in the potential transfer.
Sturridge is 2/1 with Ladbrokes to make the move to Villa Park this summer.
Leicester City are another Premier League team being linked with Sturridge and would undoubtedly be more tempting to the striker. The Foxes are managed by Brendan Rodgers, the man who took Sturridge to Anfield from Chelsea for £12 million in January 2013.
The possibility of liking up with Rodgers again in 2019 may mean a restricted role behind Jamie Vardy but a chance of staying in the Premier League with a well-established club.
Sturridge is 8/1 with Betfair to join Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
Scotland Bound?
An interesting alternative for Sturridge would be to move to a new country and Scotland is being touted as a potential destination.
Former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard is now in charge at Rangers and will be hoping to use his stature in the game to attract some big name players to Glasgow. Sturridge would certainly be a big move for Rangers and he has the ability to score plenty of goals in the Scottish Premiership.
The opportunity to help take Rangers to their first Scottish title since 2010/11 may be enough to persuade Sturridge to join his form Liverpool teammate at Ibrox.
Sturridge is 5/4 with Betfair to make the move to Rangers before the close of the transfer window.
