Colombia vs Chile Game Preview
Colombia are the only team at this Copa America with wins in all three games, and they even kept their net intact in each, so there’s a good reason why they’re labelled as slight favourites in this one. Chile, on the other hand, failed to win their group after losing to Uruguay and now will have to face Colombia instead of weaker Peru.
Colombia Team News and Latest Form
Seeking a sixth straight win, Colombia recorded a tournament joint-high of three group stage clean sheets to get here. Even more impressively, the Colombians have (if only accounting for the regulation 90 minutes) kept a clean sheet in 18 of their last 19 victories in the Copa America.
In great attacking form, Los Cafeteros have found the net in 14 of their last 15 fixtures, including friendlies (W11, D2, L2 – within 90 minutes). However, this game could prove to be a tight clash, with each of Colombia’s last six Copa America fixtures producing under 2.5 total goals.
Colombia’s Duván Zapata has scored three goals in his last four international appearances, with all of those strikes arriving after the 85th minute. Each of Colombia’s last six Copa America games has seen at least one team fail to score.
Chile Team News and Latest Form
Chile, meanwhile, come into this one having found the net in all but one of their last nine fixtures (W5, D1, L3). However, they have been struggling at the back recently, conceding in seven of their previous eight outings. When Chile lose, they tend to do so in dramatic fashion, having conceded exactly three goals in five of their last six defeats.
In 11 previous H2H meetings in the Copa America, Chile have an excellent record that currently stands at W7, D2, L2. Moreover, La Roja come into this clash after registering a clean sheet in each of the two prior H2H meetings (W1, D1), with that duo including a 2-0 win in the Copa America 2016.
Alexis Sánchez has scored exactly one goal in four of his last five caps – all of which were scored after the break. Five of Chile’s last six Copa America fixtures have seen at least one team fail to score.
Colombia vs Chile Head to Head
These rivals have met 29 times since 1945 and Chile leads in all-time H2H duels with 13 victories in opposite to Colombia’s eight with eight draws. Los Cafeteros are without a win over Chile in the last four meetings, but three of those games ended as a draw. Excluding goalless games, Chile have been leading at half-time in each of their previous seven H2Hs (W4, D2, L1).
Colombia vs Chile Betting Tip
Colombia are slight favourites at 6/5 odds but considering they haven’t beat Chile in the previous four encounters and the fact that this is the knockout phase, we’re going to avoid betting on full-time here. Although Colombia haven’t conceded a single goal thus far in the tournament, this is a perfect opportunity for punters to cash in on both teams to score finally. We’re backing BTTS at 21/20 with William Hill even though none of the last two H2H clashes produced goals on both ends.
