Egypt vs D.R. Congo Game Preview
After a narrow opening win over Zimbabwe, Egypt now need just a point to secure their place in the knockout stage, but they will surely go for all three points in front of their fans. D.R. Congo, on the other hand, disappointed in their first match as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Uganda, and they are desperate to make a better impression against the host nation.
Egypt Team News and Latest Form
Egypt, the most decorated nation in AFCON history with seven titles, got their campaign off to a winning 1-0 start. That result carried on the recent habit of the Pharaohs being involved in low-scoring affairs, with four of their five games played this calendar year producing under 2.5 goals in total.
Furthermore, three of Egypt’s last four outings have ended 1-0 either way, which has occasionally been uncomfortable for their fans. Yet, with Egypt opening the scoring in four of their previous five games, and seeing three of their last four victories yield a single-goal margin, they will likely adopt their usual approach.
Egyptian midfielder Trezeguet has opened the scoring for his nation in each of their last three AFCON matches, including qualifying. The half-time scoreline has been 1-0 in Egypt’s favour in each of their previous two games.
D.R. Congo Team News and Latest Form
Meanwhile, two-time winners D.R. Congo lost 2-0 to Uganda in their opening game, and in turn, the Leopards have now won just once since the start of 2018 (W1, D6, L3). Notably, five of the six draws in that sequence ended 1-1, though they fought back after conceding the first goal in four of those stalemates.
Similarly to the opposition, D.R. Congo’s games are typically low-scoring affairs. Just one of their ten games since the beginning of 2018 has seen over 2.5 total goals, and slightly over half of the overall goals scored across this period have arrived after half-time (55.55%).
Cedric Bakambu is the only player to score a winning goal for his nation since Neeskens Kebano in November 2017. D.R. Congo have drawn seven of their last nine AFCON tournament group games (W2, D7). Five of their previous seven AFCON tournament draws have seen under 2.5 match goals.
Egypt vs D.R. Congo Head to Head
Egypt and D.R. Congo have met on seven occasions so far, and the current H2H record is entirely on the Pharaohs’ side (W5, D1, L1), and that only loss came 45 years ago. The previous tilt between these teams (March 2012) ended without goals, but that shouldn’t be the case in this one as Egypt scored in each of their last six home matches.
Egypt vs D.R. Congo Betting Tip
The Egyptians are firm favourites at 1/2 odds, and D.R. Congo recorded just one away victory in their last ten matches, and after a poor display in the opener against Uganda, I am backing the hosts to get three points here. Following the Champions League final and his goal from the penalty spot, Mohamed Salah played 120 minutes for Egypt and failed to score, and we’re backing the Egyptian King to find the back of the net here at 4/5. Also, you can combine Egypt to win and Salah to score using Bet Builder with bet365, and you’ll get 6/5 odds.
