Scurry Stakes 2019 Main Contenders
Garrus
Improving colt who has won both his races so far this season including a Listed Race at York on his last run. He only just got up in the final strides there over what is a fast five furlongs and he should appreciate Sandown’s stiffer finish here. Sets a decent standard for the others to aim at on his current rating of 106 and his trainer Charlie Hills won the 2017 renewal with the brilliant Battaash, who also improved greatly from two to three.
Shades Of Blue
Won at Ascot on debut and then ran a cracker to be third in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. Faded to be third over six furlongs on this year’s seasonal debut but she was entitled to need that run after being off the track for 10 months. She was just touched off by Garrus at York last time and, after just four career runs, she should finish close to that rival again here.
Street Parade
Won two novice races as a two-year-old before finding group and listed company too hot to handle on his final two starts as a juvenile. He then won a handicap on this year’s seasonal debut off a mark of 95, seemingly improving for being gelded over the winter, and was quite impressive in doing so considering he was only the fourth best in the market in a five-runner field. Now rated 101 and is rated just 5lb behind Garrus.
Leodis Dream
Won the final two of his three starts as a two-year-old and continued that winning streak this season by winning handicaps off marks of 86, 90, and 94. He was then made favourite for a big handicap at York but finished last of the 19 runners after being awkward at the start. He could easily bounce back here but he has to find 6lb with Garrus on official ratings.
Surry Stakes 2019 Summary
Leodis Dream can be forgiven for running poorly on his last start but it could be that he has just had too much racing for now. Street Parade looks to be going the right way but he did flop in this sort of company last year. There shouldn’t be much between Shades Of Blue and Garras after their clash last time, but trainer Charlie Hills has a great record of improving three-year-old sprinters and Garrus is just preferred.
