Kane Named in England Nations League Squad

Despite having been out with an ankle injury since the beginning of April, England skipper Harry Kane has been named in the England squad for their upcoming Nations League Final clash against the Netherlands. It is unclear as to whether the forward will be able to play any part for the Three Lions in Portugal, whilst Tottenham Hotspur fans will be sweating on his fitness, with the Champions League Final taking place just five days prior to the England match.

There were few surprises in the rest of the squad named by Southgate on Thursday afternoon, with the likes of Harry Winks and Nathan Redmond perhaps being the only unexpected names. England are the favourites with the majority of bookmakers to defeat Holland in their semi-final clash, with punters being able to take advantage of a best price of 7/5 from Betfair for the Three Lions to come out on top.

Despite the Champions League Final being so close to the tie, there are no fewer than nine players from Spurs and Liverpool, something that could give manager Southgate a headache ahead of kick-off. There was no place in the 27-man squad for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, whilst Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek picked up an injury for the Blues in a friendly tie against the New England Revolution on Wednesday evening.

The winner of the clash between England and Holland will meet either Portugal or Switzerland in the Nations League final, with the host nation currently being the 2/1 favourites to lift the trophy in its inaugural year with bookmaker Ladbrokes. In what has already been an excellent year for English football, with Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea having made up the Champions League and Europa League finals, further success for the Three Lions this summer would certainly give their fans something to cheer about.
