Unibet Mares’ Hurdle 2019 Main Contenders

Laurina

Six-year-old mare that only made her debut for Irish trainer Willie Mullins in December 2017. However, she quickly made up into a high-class horse with four effortless victories last season, including an 18-lengths win at the Cheltenham Festival. She also proved her stamina for 2½ miles with a Grade 1 win at Fairyhouse when last seen. She’s now around 5/1 for the Champion Hurdle in March and it will be a big disappointment if she doesn’t extend her winning run here if she makes the journey across the Irish Sea. Rated 151.

Lust For Glory

Winner of a point-to-point, a bumper, and a hurdle race, and the form of her win over hurdles over Posh Trish was useful form. However, Posh Trish reversed the form on better terms next time. Only run at trips of around two-miles so far and, as she got outpaced at an important stage last time, there’s a good chance she can improve further if stepped up in trip here. Rated 134.

Momella

Hasn’t looked to stay in two tries at three-miles this season, but could be interesting dropped back in trip as she had some smart form at trips of around 2½ miles last season. That from included a second in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham and a third in a Grade 1 at Aintree, both of which were against the boys. Highest-rated of the English-trained runners on a mark of 142.

Sensulano

Improving six-year-old that has won her last two starts in handicaps off marks of 126 and 129, and she is now rated 134. However, the horse who finished second to her last time has since finished over 14-lengths behind Posh Trish, suggesting she’s might have to improve again to beat Lust For Glory.

Unibet Mares’ Hurdle 2019 Summary

A race that looks to revolve around Laurina who, though she would have to concede 3lb to the English horses, would still have plenty in hand on official ratings on those terms. The bookies have taken no chances with her though, pricing her up at odds-on, but that price could still shorten dramatically if allowed to take her chance. If Laurina doesn’t run, this trip could be perfect for Momella, who is preferred to Lust For Glory who has yet to prove her stamina.
