The second week at Wimbledon has arrived and fresh from their break on Middle Sunday, the 16 players left in the men’s draw will all be harbouring ambitions of reaching the Wimbledon final. Of course the usual suspects – Federer/Nadal and co – are the logical choices to go all the way at SW19 this year but with a plethora of young talent still present throughout the draw, betting on which players will win their quarter – i.e. will reach the semi-finals – could be the way to go at the All England Club this year.
Here is our quarter betting Wimbledon predictions:
Quarter 1:
As with any Grand Slam, the top seed sits at the top of the draw and 8-time Champion Roger Federer once again looks hot favourite to progress through Quarter 1. The Swiss legend is 1/5 with William Hill to reach at least the last 4.
There are some interesting contenders for Federer to deal with in the top 4 of the draw however, principally in the form of Kevin Anderson. The number 8 seed Anderson is always a threat on grass – reaching the last 8 at Wimbledon last year and always seems to play his best tennis on the big stage. The South African number 1 is 6/1 with Ladbrokes to lead the top quadrant of the draw and beat Federer. Two Frenchman make up the top 4 of the draw in the form of Gael Monfils and Adrian Mannarino. Monfils has reached the second week at SW19 for the first time and is more than capable of springing a surprise at 10/1 with Bet Victor whilst Mannarino looks to have his work cut out at 25/1 with 888 Sport.
Top Pick for Quarter 1: Roger Federer – 1/5 – William Hill.
Quarter 2:
The draw opens up in Quarter 2 in what looks to be one of the most intriguing segments of the tournament. Number 3 seed and last year’s runner up Marin Cilic was the biggest name casualty, losing in round 2 to Guido Pella and it has left 4 men with a great chance of reaching a Grand Slam semi-final.
Milos Raonic had a poor start to the year but looks to be returning to his best at the right time and his big serve will cause problems for anyone on the grass and the 2016 runner-up is now 10/11 with Betfair to win quarter two this year. The giant American John Isner also has a game capable of causing problems and he has shown resilience already this year – saving match points in round 2 and he could be a good shout at 2/1 with Betfred to reach the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, two young upstarts will fancy their chances of reaching the last 4 in the form of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Mackenzie McDonald who are both in the last 16 of Wimbledon for the first time. Tsitsipas is widely tipped as the future of men’s tennis and the Junior Wimbledon champion of 2016 could be a good bet at 5/1 with Bet Bright to reach the last 4. McDonald meanwhile has impressed on his Wimbledon debut and is 10/1 with Betway to carry on his dream run for two more rounds.
Top Pick for Quarter 2: John Isner – 2/1 – Betfred.
Quarter 3:
Arguably the most difficult quarter to give Wimbledon betting tips from is quarter 3 with so many capable players tucked into the third segment of the draw. Three-time champion Novak Djokovic tops the market at 4/9 with Coral and the Serb looks to be returning to form after a tumultuous 12 months and he has looked very strong in week 1 at Aorangi Park
Kei Nishikori has returned to the top table of men’s tennis in style in recent weeks as he looks to have finally rid himself of injury problems. The Japanese number 1 isn’t known for his grass court prowess but his dismantling of Nicky Kyrgios in round 3 was impressive. He is 3/1 with 188 Bet to progress to the last 4 at Wimbledon for the first time.
The ‘Latvian Lord’ Ernests Gulbis always seems to play his most remarkable tennis at Wimbledon and he sprung another huge surprise in round 3 – defeating number 4 seed Alexander Zverev. He has had to come through qualifying this year and looks in imperious form and the former world number 10 is more than capable at 12/1 with Betfred.
Karen Khachanov makes up the quartet in the third quarter and the young Russian continues to impress on the ATP Tour with his booming forehand causing problems for many opponents. He would have to beat Djokovic and the winner of Nishikori/Gulbis to reach the last 4 but could come of age at 12/1 with Ladbrokes.
Top Pick for Quarter 3: Novak Djokovic – 4/9 – Coral.
Quarter 4:
As with any event, the number 2 seed props up the draw and Rafael Nadal is once again that man at Wimbledon this year. Two-time Champion and current world number 1 seldom plays his best tennis on grass but is always a difficult opponent with his lefty top-spin and never say die attitude. The Mallorcan is 8/13 with Coral to progress to the last 4 – for the first time since 2011. Number 5 seed Juan Martin Del Potro looks well placed to run Nadal all the way at SW19 this year with the Argentine showing some of his best form in recent months – he is 7/4 with 188 Bet to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2013.
Two relative outsiders make up the remainder of quarter 4 in the form of Gilles Simon and Jiri Vesely. Simon, a fomer world number 6 is a consistent performer on the tour and is looking to reach the last 8 for the first time since 2015 but will have to do it the hard way at 20/1 with William Hill. Jiri Vesely meanwhile has dropped outside the world’s top 100 but has had an excellent first week here – defeating Diego Schwartzman and Fabio Fognini to reach the 4th round for the second time. He has it all to do though at 33/1 with Betfred.
Top Pick for Quarter 4: Juan Martin Del Potro – 7/4 – 188 Bet.
