Toure to Play for £1 a Week?
Yaya Tour left Manchester City this summer following 8 successful years at the club. Having joined from Barcelona in 2010, Toure has helped Manchester City win the Premier League title three times, the Football League Cup twice and the FA Cup.
Toure has also been named the African Footballer of the Year four times and Manchester City Player of the Year.
The Ivory Coast international enjoyed some of the best moments of his career at the Etihad Stadium, scoring some magnificent goals for the club. However, Toure’s final season at Manchester was not great, even though the team went on to win the title in style.
Toure Released
Toure is now a free agent and at the age of 35 is looking for a new club to see out the final years of his career.
Manchester City have named their training ground pitches after Toure and unveiled a mosaic of him at their training complex. However, Toure only started one Premier League game under Pep Guardiola last season, which was the final home fixture against Brighton.
Since leaving the club, Toure has made some comments in the media regarding Guardiola. The former Barcelona and Monaco midfielder said he searched for data from the club’s trainers to compare himself to younger players and was clearly unhappy with his lack of game time during his final season.
However, no one expected the comments reported by France Football.
Toure said, “I do not know why but I have the impression that he was jealous, he took me for a rival. As if I made him a little shade.
“He was cruel to me. I came to wonder if it was not because of my colour.
“I am not the first to talk about these differences in treatment. In Barca, some have also asked the question.
“When we realise he often has problems with Africans wherever he goes, I ask myself questions.
“I want to be the one who breaks the myth of Guardiola.”
These are damning remarks and it has since emerged that Toure’s agent is willing to offer the services of his client to Premier League teams at just £1 a week.
Any Takers at £1 per Week?
Dimitri Seluk said, “We decided to dedicate the next season to Guardiola. I officially declare Yaya is ready to move to any of the Premier League top six clubs as a free agent and play for just £1 per week, with possible bonuses.”
So, which of the top six are willing to take on the Ivorian?
Manchester United have just signed Fred and Liverpool have made a move for Naby Keita and Fabinho. Perhaps Arsenal could step in to add another dimension to their attacking midfield play but it would be a surprise if Toure did sign for a team and accept a wage of just £1 per week.
If he did, it would surely make him the cheapest player in the history of the Premier League and in the current professional English leagues.
