Egypt vs Uruguay | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds
The second match of the 2018 World Cup see’s Egypt and Uruguay going head-to-head in Yekaterinburg, with the duo being tipped as the favourites to qualify from Group A. Both teams will be looking to make a winning start to the competition, however the nature of the match means that many are predicting a close encounter at the Central Stadium.
Match Preview
World Cup Group A rivals Egypt and Uruguay meet on the second day of the competition, with both the African dark horses and South American giants looking to make a positive start to the tournament in Yekaterinburg. The match has already been billed as a battle between Mohamed Salah and Luis Suarez, however there is much more to the fixture than the famous duo. There is little separating the duo ahead of kick-off, meaning that there are still plenty of attractive markets worth checking out before the match. For those still unsure of who to back, be sure to check out our top betting tip below. However, let’s first take a closer look at the two teams, starting with Egypt.
Egypt Form
Egypt finished top of their African qualifying group in order to automatically qualify for the World Cup Finals this summer, with manager undoubtedly hoping to use his significant experience in leading them to a successful campaign in Russia. Off the back of a fantastic season with Premier League side Liverpool, Mohamed Salah will undoubtedly be keen to continue his impressive goalscoring form onto the international scene, while Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny should be fit for the opening match, despite having missed the end of the season for the Gunners.
Uruguay Form
Uruguay finished second in South American qualifying behind Brazil, with manager Óscar Tabárez looking to lead his side to the World Cup knockout stages once more, having been knocked out by Colombia in the Round of 16 four years ago. The likes of Luis Suarez, Edison Cavani and Diego Godin are the most talented players for the South American’s, who come into the tournament off the back of friendly wins over Wales and the Czech Republic.
Head to Head
The two teams have met just once in the past, coming in a friendly encounter back in 2006. A Goal from Diego Godin helped Uruguay to a 2-0 success that day, with the Atletico Madrid man almost certain to be in the starting line-up in Russia, some 12 years later. However, with the duo having not met since this day, little can be read into their head-to-head record.
Egypt vs Uruguay Prediction
Given their form coming into the competition and record during qualifying, it comes as little surprise that it is Uruguay who are the favourites for victory with the major online bookmakers. The South American side are available to back at best odds of 4/6 with bookmaker Ladbrokes, while a victory for Egypt is priced at an attractive 5/1 on the same platform.
