The WTA Tour continues to throw up surprises on a weekly basis and with yet another very open field assembling on the Italian capital, it promises to be an intriguing week of tennis with ranking points and form up for grabs ahead of the French Open at Roland Garros later in the month.
Outright Betting & WTA Rome Masters Preview
Picking a winner here in Rome does not look an easy task with the usual gathering of big names being joined by some of the most exciting talents in the game currently.
Here’s a look at some of our favourites for the WTA Rome title & Odds:
- Simona Halep – 11/2 (Coral) – The Romanian is still looking for that elusive first Grand Slam but is sitting pretty at the top of the world rankings after another consistent season. With her only title of the year coming on the hard courts in Shenzhen, she will be eager to add to add to her trophy collection here having reached the final here last season.
- Petra Kvitiova – 7/1 (888 Sport) – The Czech superstar has shown amazing resilience to bounce back from her off-court troubles in recent months and looks to be back at the top of her game. She’s had a remarkable month on the clay, winning in front of her home fans in Prague before picking up her 3rd Madrid title last week and she looks to be back to her belligerent best.
- Karolina Pliskova – 8/1 (William Hill) – The former world number 1 has returned to form in recent weeks – reaching the semi-final in Madrid and beating the likes of Azarenka, Halep and Stephens along the way and is well equipped on clay. A fierce competitor that will want to continue her hot streak before the French Open.
- Elina Svitolina – 10/1 (Bet Victor) – As the defending champion here in Rome, the Ukrainian is enjoying yet another solid year on the WTA Tour – placed number 4 in the world rankings and she too is in pursuit of her maiden Grand Slam title. With the Brisbane and Dubai titles already under her belt this season, she’s looking for a third crown already this campaign.
In a very open field in the Spanish capital, here are some of the best outside picks:
- Garbine Muguruza – 11/1 (Ladbrokes) – The hard-hitting Spaniard has struggled for form since winning Wimbledon last season but is always a threat – particularly on clay (French Open winner in 2016). Currently placed number 3 in the world rankings and she tends to bring her A-game to big events.
- Caroline Garcia – 20/1 (Betfred) – The young Frenchwoman broke into the world’s top 10 at the end of last season and has been there ever since. She’s a real competitor and has a good draw here.
- Kiki Bertens – 20/1 (888 Sport) – The solid Dutchwoman has been in good form throughout 2018 and got her just rewards last week by reaching the final in Madrid as well as winning the title in Charleston. Serious contender here.
