Huxley Stakes 2018 Horse Racing Preview And Tip

The Huxley Stakes (Friday 11 May, 2.25) is a Group 2 Race for horses aged four and older that is run over a trip of 1 mile 2 furlongs and 70 yards. It was one of the more recent additions to the group races at Chester’s May Meeting, with the inaugural edition being run in 1999, and won by the aptly named Chester House. Other famous winners include three-time winner Maraahel and the 2014 winner Noble Mission.

Eminent

The top-rated horse by 3lb on a mark of 116 and he’s already won in Group 2 company, when he lead all the way at Deauville last season. The fact that only three of the last 10 winners have defied a similar absence of eight months isn’t a concern either as he won first time out in 2016 and 2017. His stable is also amongst the winners, whilst Oisin Murphy looks the type of strong jockey that can should get on well with the horse.

Forest Ranger

All three of his wins have come on his seasonal debut so, after winning last month, the concern must be that he’s done his winning for the season. Collateral form also suggests that Eminent should have his measure if at his best, whilst he may also prefer running on a straight track rather than round these tight bends.

Convey

Has some good form to his name at Listed and Group 3 level including a win in last season’s Winter Derby at Lingfield. Only fourth in this year’s renewal of the Winter Derby and he’s also older than any of the last 10 winners.

War Decree

Good enough to beat Thunder Snow as a two-year-old but only win since then was a Group 3 on the all-weather at Dundalk. He also finished well behind Eminent in the Craven Stakes last season and may prefer faster ground than he’ll get here. Ryan Moore does have a 50% strike-rate in this race in the last 10 years though.

Frankuus

Yet to race at Chester but his three front-running wins at Haydock suggest he could enjoy it here. However, he’s got the widest draw and even his best form leaves him with 7lb to find with Eminent.

Huxley Stakes 2018 Summary

An interesting six-runner renewal of the Group 2 Huxley Stakes with Forest Ranger, Convery, War Decree, and Frankuus all entitled to run well. However, if Oisin Murphy can get Eminent into an early lead from stall-1, Eminent will be tough to beat if in the same sort of form as he showed in France last year.
