The Betfred Mobile Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes (Saturday 12 May, 1.55), also known as the Lingfield Oaks Trial, takes place over 1 mile 3 furlongs and 133 yards at Lingfield. It was first run in 1933 and is currently a Listed Race.
It’s most famous winners include User Friendly (1992), Lady Carla (1996) and Ramruna (1999) who all completed the Lingfield Oaks Trial and Epsom Oaks double. However, the last Oaks winner to run in the Lingfield Oaks Trial was Look Here in 2008, though she could only finish second in this race prior to her Oaks success.

Lingfield Oaks Trial 2018 Main Contenders
Flattering
This Aidan O’Brien trained filly hasn’t been strong in the market on either of her two starts to date. However, whilst she failed to trouble the judge on her first start over a mile when sent-off at 18/1, she was a shock 10-lengths winner over 10-furlongs on her last start despite being sent-off at 14/1. She’s by Galileo, so the further step-up in trip should suit, and she has to be respected with Ryan Moore likely to take the reins for the first time.
Cecchini
Winner of her sole start to date for trainer Ralph Beckett over a mile. Therefore, it’s interesting that her trainer, who does well in this race, steps her up significantly in distance on her second start. Her stamina is not guaranteed on breeding though as she’s by Rip Van Winkle who was better-known as a miler and 10-furlong horse.
Stream Song
Didn’t show much on her first two starts for John Gosden but won her last start as a two-year-old when getting up near the line over a mile. She again got going late on when winning on this year’s seasonal over 10-furlongs. She seems to have acquired some of the quirks of her mother’s Montjeu bloodline but, if she’s also acquired some of Montjeu’s stamina, she should relish this step-up in trip, which her run-style also suggests she’ll like.
Lubinka
Ran creditably as a two-year-old when behind the likes of Soliloquy and Laurens over shorter-trips and very much appreciated the step-up to 12-furlongs when winning on the all-weather last time. She should have no problem returning to turf and there has been a bit of money around for her in the last few days.
Lingfield Derby Trial 2018 Summary
Aidan O’Brien, Ralph Beckett, and John Gosden have all won this race in the last decade, so a win for Flattering, Cecchini, or Stream Song would be no surprise. However, Lubinka’s two-year-old form was at least on a par with their form, and she looked good when winning last time over a similar trip. Therefore, she looks a value each-way play against the horses from the bigger stables, especially as her trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam has handled a few Classic winners in his time.
