The Exiles have lost touch with the top seven in the league now after back to back defeats and although they are only five points out of the play off places, that is a lot of ground to make up in such a tight battle going on above them. Forest Green just have survival issues on their mind and nothing else as they start the weekend one place clear fo the drop zone, but they gave themselves a boost last weekend with a surprise victory over Coventry. Can they follow up?

Newport Form
Newport gets back to action on the weekend trying to snap a two-match losing streak that they are on at the moment. They are winless in three and their chance of getting into the play offs is fading rapidly. They have slipped to five points adrift of the play offs heading into the weekend. Their home form is pretty tight though as they are unbeaten in their last five at Rodney Parade now (W2 D3) but they had that extra game in midweek as they lost out at Tottenham in their FA Cup fourth-round replay against the Lilywhites. Their last two league home wins (as well as each of their last four home and away) have been by a 2-1 scoreline and that’s not a bad correct score option for this one. They are going to have to dig deep again to get some momentum going now that their FA Cup run is done. Overall this season Newport are W6 D6 L2 on home soil. They don’t have a single clean sheet in any of their last eight league outings though.
Forest Green Form
Rovers gave themselves a huge boost last weekend in pulling off a shock 2-1 home win over Coventry. That was a big three points for them which kept their home form going. However, their away form is really in the gutter at the moment having put together a six-match losing streak away from the New Lawn in League Two. They have failed to stick the ball in the onion bag in any of their last three road games either and they look pretty risky in this one. Their away form for the season is miserable at just W2 D3 L10 and on their travels, they have managed only the eleven goals which is an average of just 0.73 per game. With just one away clean sheet all term, it’s easy to see why they are struggling. They are starting the weekend just two points above the drop zone now and they look, the way things are going, to be banking all of their survival hopes on home form.
Head to Head News
This is the third meeting between Newport and Forest Green this season. Rovers took a 2-0 home win over the Exiles in the Football League Trophy before getting hammered 4-0 in their home league fixture against them. The last time that Rovers went to Rodney Parade though, in the 2013 Blue Square Premier, they landed a huge 5-0 win.
Newport v Forest Green – Betting Odds and Predictions
Overall in the head to head, Newport are 4-3 up with the four drawn matches. Both teams have scored in just one of the last six meetings. This looks like a tight game where a draw might not be the craziest thing. However, consider the strength of the hosts.
Top Betting Tip Newport v Forest Green
Newport should be alright on home soil against the struggling Rovers. Newport’s recent misfires have been out on the road so you would expect them to be a bit stronger on home soil. Forest Green are not carrying away form and should come away empty handed. Home win.
