Colchester can’t buy themselves a win at the moment, but thanks to a clutch of drawn games they have managed to hold ground in the middle of the table. They have a chance to climb a little bit here if they could bag three points and if they could get them, it would put them level on points with Newport. The Exiles were representing in the FA Cup for League Two in their heroics against Spurs last weekend but also had to squeeze in an extra midweek league game too.

Colchester Form:
Colchester are winless in six in the league now (D4 L2) and are just having to grind it out. They have actually only won one of their last eight played with five drawn matches in that sequence. So where they are involved at the moment, a draw doesn’t look bad value. On home soil, they have lost only the three times this season which is good but they are only D3 L1 in their last four at the Weston Homes. They have averaged 1.5 goals per game at home which is steady and 65% of the home goals they have come up with have been in the first half of matches, so they have been stronger starters than finishers of matches for sure. The most frequent scoreline at the Weston Homes this season has been a 1-1 draw which has happened on four separate occasions and twice in their last five at home. They face a tough opponent here but my fancy at least grabbing a point.
Newport Form:
Newport pulled off some heroics in the FA Cup by holding out for a draw against Spurs, in a game which they could easily have won at Rodney Parade actually. However, they have suffered back to back defeats in the league now having suffered 2-1 reverse against Exeter and Crawley and that has left the Exiles with just the one win in their last five league outings (D1 L3). They are just on the slide at the moment. They are holding on to third place going into the weekend but have their FA Cup replay against Tottenham in midweek so they may well have one eye on their trip to Wembley. Away from home in League Two the Exiles have only lost one of their last seven games on the road, but have drawn five of them (W1 L1). So they are certainly not running hot at the moment and with that big pay day out at Spurs coming up, there is every chance that their promotion push in the league may suffer another setback. County boasts the fourth best defence in the league despite recent setbacks.
Colchester v Newport Head to Head News:
The head to head history between Colchester and Newport stands at just three games each and from those Colchester are W1 D2 up. So a slight advantage and the win for them over the Exiles came earlier this season when they went to Rodney Parade and got themselves a good 2-1 away victory. That’s the sum of it all for the head to head. Their only previous home game against Newport ended in a 1-1 draw.
Top Colchester v Newport Betting Tips:
Colchester just can’t be trusted to get a win on the board at the moment, not even against a Newport side who have had a busy week. The Exiles would probably be happy enough rolling in and getting a win, but you can’t help feeling that they will have one eye on their FA Cup replay in midweek. Back Colchester to pull out three points somehow.
