Chelsea will be looking to gather themselves a bit after what has been a difficult run of matches for them. They have drawn their last five games in all competitions now (90 minutes) and they look to have lost their sharpness up front and they will go into the weekend without Alvaro Morata and Pedro who were both shown red cards in Chelsea’s penalty shootout win over Norwich in midweek which was full of VAR controversy.
The Blues though will be looking for a big response in this game and they could be looking forward to it as they are on a seven-match winning streak against the Seagulls. Just back on Boxing Day Chelsea eased their way to a professional 2-0 win down at the Amex to collect all three points. They will know that they are going up against a tough Brighton defence, but the Blues have scored in all but two of their away games this season, averaging 1.8 goals per game away from Stamford Bridge.
Brighton have been solid at home this season with only Manchester City and Tottenham having won visits to the Amex in the Premier League. Even though the Seagulls are not a high-scoring side they have managed to net in eight of their eleven home games this season, and indeed 71% of their goals this season have been home soil. So with the visiting Blues just a little bit off-colour at the moment, Brighton may sense a chance of at least bagging themselves a previous survival point in this Saturday lunchtime kick off.
