The Villains do have a promotion to the Premier League on their mind, but a good FA Cup run could really bolster their confidence and self-belief. They get a third-round home game against League One side Peterborough. The Posh aren’t in bad nick at all and could have the goals to make life uncomfortable for the Villains. Villa are 4/6 odds on favourites for the win with Peterborough at 19/4.

Aston Villa Form:
The Villains are a strong home side and it is easy to see why they are favourites for this FA Cup tie. They have lost just twice at home all season across all competitions and are unbeaten in five at Villa Park. They have collected three clean sheets in their last five home games as well and going forward they have scored at least two goals in all but one of their last five home fixtures. So it’s looking pretty good for them and there may be a serious consideration on backing them to get a clean sheet win as well. They are usually pretty reliable. Villa crashed out against Spurs in last season’s third round.
Peterborough Form:
The Posh are not in bad shape then going into this one with a W4 D1 L1 record posted in their last six home and away and the goal shave been flowing for them too. They have scored at least two goals in six of their last eight games so that suggests that they will get some chances in this one. They have won just two for their last six away games (D2 L2) though and they haven’t taken a clean sheet in that sequence of away fixtures, so ultimately against a higher-tiered opponent they may just come up a little bit short. But they look as if they could at least make it interesting early on.
Head to Head News:
It has been a while since these two saw each other. Their last meetings were in the 1995 League Cup when Villa won 7-1 on aggregate. From their three previous home games against the Posh (all cup competitions) Viall have outscored Peterborough 14-2. Overall in the head to head, Villa have taken three wins and two draws from their five previous games against the Posh.
Top Betting Tips:
Villa are such a solid team at Villa Park that the sensible money would have to be with them. Peterborough aren’t in bad shape at all at the moment really but could come up short again but it is likely to be a low-scoring tight match.
