The Carabao Cup has reached the quarter final stage and on Tuesday night Leicester City will take on league leaders, Manchester City for a place in the semi finals. Claude Puel has worked wonders since replacing Craig Shakespeare as Leicester manager and he would dearly love to get one over on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side in this game.
- When: 7:45PM, Tuesday, December 19th, 2017
- Where: The King Power Stadium, Leicester, England
Leicester City
Leicester City’s run of four successive wins came to a disappointing end on Saturday as they were beaten 3-0 by Crystal Palace at The King Power Stadium. Palace had failed to score an away goal before that match and Puel will have been disappointed by the performance of his players in that game. Puel may decide to make some changes heading into this game, especially with a huge match against Manchester United to come at the weekend.
Manchester City
Manchester City made it 16 wins in a row with a 4-1 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening and Pep Guardiola’s side were at the brilliant best once again. The only game that City have lost this season was in the Champions League and Guardiola’s side are unbeaten domestically. You would expect the manager to make a number of changes ahead of Tuesday’s match, with fringe players like Bernardo Silva and Yaya Toure likely to be given chances to impress.
Talking Points
- Manchester City have already beaten Leicester City at The King Power Stadium this season; 2-0 back in November.
- Leicester City are three times winners of this competition, with their most recent success coming in 2000.
- Manchester City have won it more recently, lifting the trophy in 2016, their fourth EFL Cup triumph.
Our Prediction
I’d expect both managers to make changes to their line ups for this match and I do think we could be in for an exciting game here. Leicester City have been much improved under Claude Puel and they could well cause this Manchester City team problems on the counter attack. I think Manchester City’s quality will see them prevail here though and you’d have to fancy Pep Guardiola’s chances of winning the whole competition.
Betting Tips (Coral)
Manchester City start this game as big 9/20 favourites to pick up yet another victory, whilst a home win for Leicester City is priced up at 13/2 with the draw available at 39/10. I think Manchester City will win this game, but I do fancy Leicester City to score, so Manchester City to win and BTTS (Yes) at 15/8 looks a great bet to me. Five of Manchester City’s last six matches in the Premier League have ended with them winning and both teams scoring, so I think it’s a pretty solid bet.
