Romelu Lukaku looked as if he was going to set Premier League scoring records this season as he came firing out of the blocks for his new club Manchester United. The Belgian, following his big-money move from Everton, scored seven goals in his opening seven league games for the Red Devils and showed no signs of slowing up. That was until the Red Devils went to Anfield, parked the bus and played out a 0-0 draw with Liverpool in mid-October.

That sparked a run of four games without a league goal for him and his only Premier League goal in his last eight games now in the top flight, came in an easy 4-1 home victory over Newcastle in mid-November. So he has gone off the boil a little bit, but now with Zlatan Ibrahimovic back fit and players around him like Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard scoring, the pressure is on Lukaku to step it up.

Lukaku will be the focal point of United’s attack on the weekend when they play host to bitter rivals Manchester City in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford. The hosts need a big performance from Lukaku and he did score in both of Everton’s games against City last season and he has scored in five different games against City in all competitions. Can he deliver the goods for United as they look to close the gap on league leaders City to five points on the weekend?

Manchester City have tremendous scoring power of their own this season as we have seen time and time again. Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling are joint top scorers for the club with nine goals each and you can throw into the mix the eight league goals that Gabriel Jesus has managed for the club so far and Leroy Sane has chipped in with a good six-goal haul as well. Will their superior firepower (they have scored eleven goals more than United have done this season in fifteen games) win out? A win sees City set a new record for the most consecutive Premier League wins.

Golden Goal

Manchester United v Man City is the game for the BetVictor Golden Goal promotion this weekend, which has a prize pot of £50,000 riding on it. Just correctly predict the first goalscorer, the minute of that first goal and the final correct score of the game to get a shot at a share of the prize!

The last time they ran this competition was on the Man City v West Ham fixture, which the Citizens won 2-1 but there was a surprise first goalscorer as West Ham’s Angelo Ogbonna popped up and netted the first goal just before the half time break. Not too surprisingly there were no correct predictions on that.
