Betting Tip: Morecambe v Coventry

The Shrimps are sweating at the moment as they are just two points above the drop zone in League Two and they are still having a huge problem in sticking the ball in the onion bag. Every point is valuable for them at the moment and they will at least be looking to dig in and avoid defeat as Coventry, a top six side, come for a visit. Coventry are carrying the stronger form of the two and they are kicking off as 11/12 favourites at the Globe Arena, with Morecambe a big 10/3 quote on home soil.

Morecambe Form

Morecambe are doing enough to keep their head above water but they have won only one of their last seven in the league now (D3 L3). That win did come on home soil as they took down Wycombe, who are currently fifth, so that could give them a bit of confidence for this one. That having been said though, they turned around in their following home game and lost against the out-of-form Crewe in their very next home game. The Shrimps are W3 D2 L5 on home soil this season and have tasted victory in just one of their last six at the Globe Arena. They have managed only the seven league goals at home this season, but defensively haven’t been bad at home, shipping only 11 in 10. A draw, considering they have only opened this scoring twice this season at home, wouldn’t be a bad result for them.

Coventry Form

The Sky Blues are up there challenging in the play off spots, but they have been struggling for wins as well recently. They have taken only two in their last nine played, but both victories in that sequence did crop up out on the road though. They are W2 D4 L3 in their last nine. Away from home this season they are W4 D3 L3 overall and they have a three match unbeaten streak of form going on the road, winning two of their last three and one of those were at league leaders Luton, an impressive 3-0 win. Coventry are the lowest scoring side in the top half of the table but have the best defensive record by a country mile in the entire division, having conceded only twelve goals in twenty league games this season.

Head to Head News

There hasn’t been much prior action between these two and this will indeed be the first ever league meeting. They were paired up in the FA Cup last season with Coventry winning 2-1 at home after a 1-1 draw at the Globe Arena. Coventry won a 2012 FA Cup meeting after losing their first-ever game against the Shrimps 2-0 in the Carling Cup back in 2010.

Top Betting Tips

Coventry, on the strength of their defence, are value to collect a narrow win in this one. They are taking on a low scoring side and therefore they should be able to keep the Shrimps at arm’s length pretty easily in this one. Don’t expect a lot of goals in the game, but look for the away win.
