Swansea’s descent down the Premier League table reached its inevitable end last weekend as defeat at Stoke City sent them to the bottom. They bid to climb back up the table with a home game against West Brom who haven’t won a league match themselves since August. City are the only side in the Premier League not to reach double figures so far this season with just nine from their 15 games.
They are bottom of the table and four points behind West Brom who occupy the position directly above the relegation zone. A win here for Swansea would make it very tight down at the foot of the table but defeat would leave them at least six points from safety and that’d be a very worrying figure for the Welsh side.
Swansea have only won two Premier League games this season beating Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town. The last couple of seasons have seen Swansea battling relegation and it’s been their home form that has saved them. It’s not quite that situation this season with the win over Huddersfield Town on October 14 their only home league victory. They have just four points from seven home games and only four goals scored. Their last three home league and cup games have seen them fail to score but at least Wilfried Bony scored in their 2-1 loss at Stoke City last weekend, his first since returning to the club in the summer. If he and Tammy Abraham can get going up front, then they still have a chance of avoiding relegation.
West Brom are three places above their opponents but only three points above the bottom three. Life under Alan Pardew began with a goalless draw with Crystal Palace and that means it’s now 13 league games since that last league win on August 19. Just the two league wins this season and they came from their first couple of league games this season. They have drawn seven games, but they so need that win to get their confidence flowing again.
Away form for Albion has seen one win, two draws and four defeats but not that many goals. Seven games on the road have only seen 13 scored with just four by West Brom with just two in the last five. With the next two games being against Liverpool and Manchester United, this is their best chance for a while to get that elusive win, but don’t imagine it’ll be anywhere near exciting enough to be first game on ‘Match of The Day.’
Conclusion
Both teams are in trouble and are desperate to get a league win on the board. Swansea have just one point from their last seven games and the cricket season was still on the last time Albion won a league game. Alan Pardew will have had over a week to work with his new team and that elusive win could well come this weekend against Swansea City.
