Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic: Current situation
Going into the postseason as the number 2 seed won’t bother the Celtics too much, as long as they stay healthy. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis have all produced solid numbers this year resulting in another 61-win season. They are heavy favorites to reach the NBA Finals yet again, with only the Cleveland Cavaliers being a real threat.
Orlando entered the postseason the hard way – through the play-in tournament as they took down the Atlanta Hawks in the 7 vs 8 match-up. They have nothing to lose in this match-up with the Celtics, so this will be a teaching moment for a squad that is on the raise. Injuries derailed Orlando for much of the season, on paper they might be the 7th seed but we all know this team is way better than that when healthy.
Boston Celtics Stats & Form
The Celtics closed out their regular season with back-to-back wins over the Charlotte Hornets to become the 3rd team this season to accumulate 60+ wins. The reserves got a ton of playing time in those two wins, Payton Pritchard led the way with 34 points on the final day of the season as the Cs held the lowly Hornets to just 86 points in a dominant home win.
Orlando Magic Stats & Form
Orlando’s most recent game saw them beat the Atlanta Hawks 120-95 in the play-in tournament. It was a good bounce back performance following a 117-105 loss on the final day of the regular season to that same team. Cole Anthony stole the show in the win earlier this week by scoring 26 off the bench on 10-for-17 shooting in just 20 minutes played.
Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic: Head-to-Head
So far in 133 regular season meetings the Celtics have had the upper hand winning 76 times, compared to Orlando’s win total of 57. Orlando actually won 2 of the 3 meetings this regular season, however it’s hard to take any of them into consideration due to various injuries happening to key players plus the 3rd one being on the very end of the season with reserves representing both teams.

Betting tip and prediction: Boston Celtics vs Orlando Magic (20.04.2025)
Right off the bat we can notice the spread being quite big here, which is a big puzzling considering there isn’t that big of a gap in talent here, at least not in our opinion. During the regular season the Orlando Magic did struggle to score ranking just 27th in offensive efficiency, but the postseason is a different game. Their style of play actually suits them better in the postseason where things will slow down significantly, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Celtics cope against a slower paced physically active team on the defensive end here. Boston did win the only game played at TD Garden between the two teams during the regular season 121-94 back in mid-January, however the game was marked by the absence of Franz Wagner for the Magic. This series will go down to how well the Magic can defend the perimeter. They finished the regular season ranking just 18th in opponent three-point percentage allowing 36.3% of shots to go in. Not ideal when you’re going up against the team that shoots and makes the most threes in the entire NBA. The whole Celtics offense is based on making threes, plus they do a really solid job at defending the opponents attempts from downtown ranking 3rd in the league in that area of play. Game 1 should tell us a lot of things, but I am of the opinion that the projected point total is set way too low for this game. There is enough talent for the two teams to go over 206 points here, so let’s back the over.
