Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors: Current situation
No team in the Western Conference has as many doubters as the Houston Rockets do entering this postseason. The main reason for that is the team’s youth and inexperience on the biggest stage. Head coach Ime Udoka has a lot of work on his hands here, the match-up vs the Warriors is not ideal as the Rockets have not had the best of head-to-head records. Most oddsmakers also favor the Warriors to advance here, which isn’t ideal if you’re a Rockets fan.
Golden State had to play an extra game to get to the 7th seed as they took care of business in the play-in game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Finishing 7th instead of 6th actually gives the Rockets a much better chance at advancing from the 1st Round as they avoided the Denver Nuggets and 3-time MVP Nikola Jokic. However, this series will be anything but easy for Stephen Curry and his teammates.
Houston Rockets Stats & Form
Houston didn’t care too much about the final game of the regular season as they lost to the Denver Nuggets 126-111. They did start all of their main guys, but once the game was going away from them they pulled everyone and gave the reserves the rest of the minutes. The extra rest benefited this team a lot, that’s one of the advantages they will have over this aging Warriors roster in Round 1.
Golden State Warriors Stats & Form
Jimmy Butler went for 38 while Stephen Curry added 37, including 6 threes as the Warriors booked their place in the West NBA Playoffs. It was a very physical game vs the Grizzlies, Golden State got outrebounded 50-39 which isn’t ideal as that keeps happening to them on a nightly basis. They’ll look to rely on mostly shorter line-ups to beat the Rockets here.
Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors: Head-to-Head
In 5 meetings so far this season the Warriors have had the upper hand in 3 of them. They’ve had a dominant run of 15 wins in a row vs the Rockets dating back to the 2020-21 season. Even though that run ended earlier this season, it still remains in the heads of the Rockets players ahead of this 1st Round series.
Houston Rockets – Golden State Warriors Odds
The Rockets are favored to win Game 1, but not by a lot. Backing the home team gets you 5/6 odds, while if you fancy the Warriors you can get 1/1 odds.
The point total has been set at 214.5 points, with odds of 10/11 supporting either the over or the under.

Betting tip and prediction: Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors (20.04.2025)
Opening the series on a high note for either side would send a clear message to the other team that they mean business. Basketball is more often than not a mental game, so if the Warriors are able to set the tone early in this series they’ll be in a good spot to pull through. Game 1 will be a fell-out game for both sides, we expect both coaches to test out different strategies here, these two teams have already played each other 5 times this season so there aren’t many secrets between them. Houston will look to get Alperen Sengun involved here, that’s their biggest advantage over the Warriors on the inside. However, the Warriors do have a counter in Draymond Green, as long as he stays out of foul trouble. Houston’s three-point defense is a worry – over their 3 final games of the regular season they allowed opponents to shoot 46.6% from three, that’s very concerning going up against Stephen Curry in a series. Together with Jimmy Butler, the Warriors have one of the most dynamic duos in the NBA. As we saw in the play-in game vs Memphis, Playoff Jimmy is a real thing and the young Rockets will certainly have a lot on their plate dealing with him. We are convinced that the Warriors are getting a split in the first two games of this series, so it makes sense to back the road team in both of them. Back Golden State on Sunday.
