Betting Tip: AFC Fylde v Wigan

National league side Fylde are just the one game away from a potentially lucrative third round FA Cup tie against one of the big guns. They get a shot against Wigan, the 2012/13 FA Cup winners in this second round tie at Wesham. It would be a stunning return if they can get this job done and move on through but they are going into the home game as heavy underdogs at 4/11 and the visiting Latics going as the 15/2 odds-on favourites.

AFC Fylde Form

So far in the FA Cup, this season Fylde have gotten past Wrexham and Kidderminster and so this will be their toughest challenge by a mile so far. Both of those wins were on home soil so they have some form there at least. Actually, they are going well at home because they are on a four match winning streak on home soil and they have taken a clean sheet in four of their last five home games. They are struggling a bit overall in the National League, occupying a place down in the bottom half of the table, but they have been getting stronger the more the season has worn on. This is their best ever run in the FA Cup proper.

Wigan Form

So a bit of a tricky test for the Latics in this trip. The Latics are carrying good form this season as they are the current League One Leaders and their season has been built on the back of a powerful defence which has shipped only 12 goals in 19 league games. Paul Cook’s men will want to get this done at the first time of asking and they eased their way past League Two opponents Craley in the last round. They haven’t produced a fantastic away record this season but are unbeaten in their last four road games but without a clean sheet in any of their last five.

Head to Head News

This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

Top Betting Tips

Fylde do have the home form running to suggest that they can actually make a decent scrap of this. However, Wigan are in pretty solid shape at the moment and have the strength in depth against a side a couple of tiers beneath them, to go and get the job done. It may only be by the one-goal margin though for the Latics.
