Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers: Current situation
Once again, the defending champions are starting to heat up. After back-to-back losses to Detroit and Cleveland they’ve now won 3 games in a row and the mood around the team couldn’t be better ahead of the game against the Lakers. The Cs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games, plus they’ve won 9 of 11 games while covering in 8 of them. Most importantly though, this team is healthy with 20 games left in the regular season.
Only the Cleveland Cavaliers who have won 12 games in a row currently have a longer active win streak than these Lakers. LA just wrapped up an 8th consecutive win by taking down the Knicks in overtime. This means they’ve covered the spread in 5 straight games and they’ve also won 10 of 12 games vs Eastern Conference opponents.
Boston Celtics Stats & Form
In preparation for this game the Celtics rested basically half of their team and they were still able to win on Friday. Jayson Tatum scored 35 points and grabbed 7 rebounds as the Cs took down the struggling 76ers 123-105 for their 3rd win in a row. In typical Celtics fashion they knocked down 19 threes, while holding their opponent to just 42% shooting from the field.
Los Angeles Lakers Stats & Form
Luka Doncic continues to mesmerize the NBA as a Los Angeles Laker. HE just had 32 points, 12 assist and 7 rebounds as the Lakers beat the Knicks 113-109. Luka also finished with the highest plus/minus on the team, which only amplifies his impact on the Lakers. LeBron James also chipped in 31 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists, you’ll be hard pressed to find a duo that’s playing better than these two superstars at the moment.
Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers: Head-to-Head
With their 117-96 win in the first meeting this season the Lakers have now actually won back-to-back meetings with the Celtics. They now have a chance to clinch the regular season series for the first time since the 2013-14 season. This will be the 302nd meeting all-time in the regular season, Boston holds a firm lead with 166 wins to 135 by the Lakers.
Boston Celtics – Los Angeles Lakers Odds
Backing Boston to win a 4th game in a row gets you odds of 8/15. If you fancy LeBron and co. to pull off the road upset, odds of 8/5 are available for a Lakers win.

Betting tip and prediction: Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers (08.03.2025)
No fanbase is as happy as the Lakers are right now in the NBA. They got a generational talent for years to come in Luka Doncic, but more importantly right now they also have a rejuvenated LeBron James on their team. Doncic and James combine for 60 points on a nightly basis, they are two of the highest IQ players in NBA history, so it’s no wonder that the Lakers are clicking on all cylinders at the moment. Facing the Celtics will be their toughest test to date though. Flying across the country and having only 1 day in between games could have a negative effect on the Lakers’ players here, this is one of the main reasons why the oddsmakers consider Boston a 6.5-point favorite here. Also, the Cs had a relatively easy home game against Philadelphia on Thursday in which they rested most of their top players. Losing that first meeting of the season by double-digits has undoubtedly left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Celtics players, so they will be extra motivated to get revenge here. They also have a history with Luka Doncic who they faced in the NBA Finals last year, it’ll be interesting to see if they can gameplan for him on defense. The most important stat here is the Lakers’ three-point defense – they’re allowing teams to shoot 36.4% from deep in road games this season. Going up against the most prolific three-point shooting team in the league, that number will certainly be tested. Boston is in a really good groove right now, so are the Lakers, but playing at home should give the edge to the Celtics here. Let’s back the defending champions.
