Betting Tip: Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion

Title chasing Tottenham Hotspur welcome managerless West Bromwich Albion to Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon with both sides in desperate need of a victory. Tony Pulis was relieved of his duties as WBA manager on Monday following a run of just two wins in 21 matches that culminated in a 4-0 home defeat to Chelsea. The likes of Michael O’Neill, Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew have all been linked with the job, but for now, Gary Megson remains in temporary charge of the Baggies.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham slipped to 4th place in the league following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to bitter rivals, Arsenal, in the North London Derby last weekend. Spurs were simply not at the races in that game and to a man, they were outplayed and out fought by their opponents. They did improve on Tuesday night though during a 2-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League which guaranteed them top spot in the group ahead of Real Madrid. Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld remain side-lined for Spurs, but Harry Kane and Dele Alli looked much sharper on Tuesday night as they continue their recovery from injury. Danny Rose remains out of the squad after falling out with manager, Mauricio Pochettino, and the left back looks destined for a move away from the club in January.

West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion have been in terrible form recently, going ten games without a win in the Premier League. They were extremely poor last weekend against Chelsea and that proved to be the final straw for the WBA board of directors. Gary Megson has come in and he will have a fully fit squad, bar Craig Dawson, to pick from in his first game in temporary charge of the club.

Talking Points

  1. Harry Kane scored his 14th goal of the season against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, he has scored those 14 goals in just 16 matches.
  2. West Bromwich Albion have scored just three goals away from home this season; only Crystal Palace have scored less (0).
  3. Spurs seem to have ended their Wembley Stadium hoodoo having won their last three games in their temporary home in the league.

Prediction

This one looks like it could be a one sided affair with Spurs taking on a struggling West Bromwich Albion side. Spurs need to win this one after recent losses to Manchester United and Arsenal have seen them slip down the league. Harry Kane and Dele Alli looked much better against Borussia Dortmund in the week and I’m backing those two to fire Spurs to victory in this one.

Betting Tips (Ladbrokes)

Tottenham start this game as big favourites at odds of 2/9, whilst an away win for West Bromwich Albion is priced up at 14/1, with the draw available at 17/4. I think Spurs will win this one comfortably and the 5/6 available on them to win without conceding looks like a solid bet to me against a West Bromwich Albion side who are the second lowest scorers away from home in the league. Harry Kane is available at 7/4 to open the scoring at Wembley Stadium and that is always a solid bet considering his 14 goals in 16 appearances this season.

Spurs to win and BTTS (NO) – 5/6 (Ladbrokes)
