Champions League 4-Fold – Tuesday

The Champions League group stage continues this week with all five of the English teams involved currently topping their groups after the first four games. Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester City are all in action on Tuesday night and two of those sides, Liverpool and Spurs, have very tough away fixtures. Both of those games will feature in this betting preview with all of the odds coming courtesy of bet365 and accurate at the time of writing.

Sevilla v Liverpool

Liverpool had a slow start to life in Group E, but back to back victories against NK Maribor coupled with Sevilla dropping points against Spartak Moscow mean that Jurgen Klopp’s side now find themselves sitting pretty at the top of the group. Liverpool were excellent against Southampton on Saturday during their 3-0 victory, with Mohamed Salah grabbing two more goals to move on to 14 for the season. I think it’ll be a tough game on Tuesday night though, with Klopp knowing that a victory would see his side qualify for the knock out stages. I can see the game ending in a draw though, one which both managers would probably take before kick off.

Spurs demolished Real Madrid 3-1 in their last game in the Champions League, but that seems a long time ago now and they were extremely poor against Arsenal in the North London Derby on Saturday. Harry Kane and Dele Alli looked well off the pace in that game and it’ll be interesting to see whether Mauricio Pochettino decides to rest his star duo on Tuesday with Spurs having already qualified. I can see Dortmund picking up their first win in the group in this one with Spurs suffering from a lack of confidence and Pochettino likely to rotate his side.

Dortmund to win – 6/5

RB Leipzig can’t afford to slip up again in Group G as they currently sit in 3rd place, two points behind Porto. The German side have been a little underwhelming in their debut Champions League campaign so far, but they can eliminate Monaco on Tuesday. If Monaco were to win though, it would then be in their own hands if Porto fail to beat Besiktas in the other game. I fancy Monaco to win this one; they’ve struggled in Europe this season, but have been excellent domestically. They have genuine quality going forward and considering Leipzig’s struggles away from home this season, I think the odds on them winning are good.

Monaco to win – 11/8

Napoli v Shakhtar Donetsk

Napoli are another side who have failed to carry their domestic form across to the Champions League this season and they too face elimination unless they can beat Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. Napoli currently top Serie A and have been superb in the league, but they have lost three of their four games in Group F. I think they’ll do the business against Shakhtar in this one though and in Dries Mertens they have one of the best attacking players in Europe right now.
