Betting Tip: Chorley v Fleetwood

Non-League Chorley have a tough draw in the FA Cup first round proper on Monday when they play host to League One side Fleetwood. There are worse draws they could have gotten but plenty of better ones that is for sure. Will the National League side be able to pull off a big upset against a side who are running three tiers higher than them in English football? It may be too big of an ask. Chorley are big 9/2 underdogs to win this with Fleetwood in at odds-on numbers of 7/10.

Chorley Form

A tough game then for the National League side Chorley. They were on a good three-match winning streak of league form but have slipped back to one point from their last two. They may have been distracted by the lure of the FA Cup. They have gone W1 D1 L1 in their three games since getting past Boston United in a replay in the last round following a 0-0 draw at the first attempt on home soil against a side who are in the National League relegation zone. As a positive, they have scored in five of their last six home games in all competitions.

Fleetwood Form

Fleetwood have only suffered a defeat in their last seven matches now and that was in a game against League One leaders Shrewsbury. So the Cod Army are in decent form and while they have been struggling for clean sheets away from home, they are a good price to go and collect a win in this one. Two clean sheets in 13 away games isn’t great but Chorley probably won’t have enough to hurt them. Stats are on the side of Fleetwood as League One sides have won nine of their last 12 FA Cup ties out on the road against non-league opponents. Fleetwood have only suffered a defeat in their last six FA Cup matches.

Top Betting Tips

Chorley have scored well at home recently and Fleetwood’s defence seems to struggle for clean sheets on the road. Look for both teams to score to return value in this one, but Fleetwood should go and do a professional enough job and get through. They are more than strong enough to handle this.
