32 Red Casino Handicap Chase  – Main Contenders

Overtown Express

10-year-old who has had just 11 races, winning 4 of them. Started the season with an impressive victory at Newbury but, having been raised 9lb by the handicapper, he fell next time in a two-runner race. Has the ability to win, but has run badly too many times to have maximum confidence in.

Speredek

7-year-old who has won 3 of his 5 chases, and there was nothing wrong with his second to Verdana Blue in a decent handicap hurdle last time. Now 6lb higher in the weights, but it’s hard to fault his tenacity, and the stable had a couple of winners over the Christmas Period.

Bun Doran

7-year-old who has yet to deliver what he’s promised to, but has run well to be placed at Aintree and Cheltenham on his last two starts. Remains on the same mark here and, though he looks like he needs to find some improvement from somewhere, that’s possible with his stable in fine form at the moment.

Garde La Victoire

Last year’s winner looks likely to try and keep his 100% course record intact, and the handicapper has kindly dropped him back to last year’s winning mark after two below-par runs since last year’s triumph. Trainer Phillip Hobbs is also bidding for a hat-trick, though his stable could be in better form.

Theo

8-year-old who ran-up a five-timer in summer off marks ranging from 103 to 120. Handicapper upped him to a mark of 134 after those wins though, and he unseated at Perth before finishing a fair fourth last-time. Could have another win in him, but has done most of his winning on left-handed tracks.

Un Prophete

7-year-old who won two races off 108 in 2017, but struggled to cope with a massive rise in the weights afterwards. Back on the scoresheet last-time, but this is a big step-up in class for him.

Our 32 Red Casino Handicap Chase Betting Tip

Garde La Victoire is a classy individual who has an excellent record at Sandown, is back on the same mark as he was when winning last year’s renewal, and he could easily outclass his rivals. However, with the ground likely to ride on the heavy-side it may not be ideal for him. Therefore, Speredek is preferred, as he has won plenty of races on soft ground, and loves going right-handed. He’s also 1 from 1 at Sandown, and won by 11-lengths the last time he carried a low-weight.
